Mellott

Chas Castell has one goal: to create great songs for the world, and inspire others as his musical heroes have done for him. Growing up in England, he crafted his musical tastes after bands like Radiohead, The Smiths, Suede, The Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, and The Stone Roses.

Moving to the US in 2002, he has studied songwriting with Phil Swan (Dreamworks), music management and business at UCLA, and is mentored by Alan Roy Scott (EMI, Motown Records) at the Songwriting School of Los Angeles. His songs have been placed on Sony Playstation and Tiscali.

His debut album, written with his brother Dave, under the band name The Castell Brothers was released independently in 2012 - entirely composed, recorded, orchestrated and produced as a long distance project, between Los Angeles and London, The album was engineered / co-produced by Kev Poree (Radiohead, Charlotte Gordon Cumming) in London, and mastered by Ron Boustead (Prince, Rolling Stones, Seal, Kiss, R.E.M., Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, Beck) in L.A.

As the other half of Mellott, Chas co-wrote and co-produced their first EP in November 2012 with producer Andre de Santanna (Sheryl Crow, Jason Mraz) at the helm. The duo is is currently working on a new EP to be released in 2015, working with 11 time Emmy Winner RC Cates, composer & music supervisor of "The Young & The Restless".

Chas has an MFA in Film Production from Boston University. He founded, operated and sold his own short film programming company, established the first mobile ad network at Warner Bros, started and ran a personal weekly blog for the BBC, and was nominated for the Student Academy Awards for his short film, ‘Blind’.

He developed and taught the first songwriting course for CreateNow, a non-profit organisation that transforms the lives of children in need through creative arts mentoring and opportunities, His music label – the ‘I Can Change the World Project’ – teaches songwriting to teenagers, with the long term goal of nurturing the next generation of socially conscious songwriters.

He is currently working on his first of a series of EPs for 2015, which he is co-producing with Academy Award winning and Grammy nominated producer Nels Jensen (Jamie Foxx, Goldspot, Sigur Ros, Flight of the Conchords, The Muppets).

He loves living in LA.
