  1. Major Mojo Woody I can only guess at what you are going through after losing two beautiful and beloved companions. My thoughts are with you
  2. Has anyone ever questioned why they still bother to play guitar? I've been playing almost 20 years, been in many bands, owned many guitars and been involved in music in one way or another for all my adult life. I've just quit a band due to an egotistic frontman who treated his band members as low rate session musicians. I now find myself asking why I do it. I gave up grandeur images of selling my ass to rock 'n' roll some time ago and it has since been a hobby/social/bit of fun. But alas, I find myself loosing my passion. I've put all my music gear up for sale, save for an electric and an acoustic. Even they haven't seen the light of day for over a month, and I used to play every day. Where religious folk turn to their church and peers when faith is waning, I ask you guys & gals. Have you ever lost faith? Question why you do it? and what did you do to revive your interest and passion for what you once loved? I can't comment on the band stuff but as far as waxing and waning interest that is a big thing right now for me. I'm a bedroom player. I don't think I have the skill to play in a band. I'm older and started later so I don't have the ability or flexibility to play hours on end to get significantly better. Originally when I first started playing all I wanted to do was play a few campfire songs, that was going to be enough. But then it wasn't and I wanted more because it as fun. After a number of hiccups I eventually found my way to the electric and this website (which is why I have 3 electrics and 2 amps ) and was a having a lot of fun. But lately that changed a bit, and it was becoming more of a routine than fun. I went away on vacation for 2 weeks and thought I'd be back enjoying playing but it just seemed like I was playing the same old thing. I thought this article was right on for me Why I quit playing guitar Everyone is going to be a bit different in why they play but I think for most of us it comes down to loving to make and hear music whether it's a simple chord progression that has special meaning to you or being able to play Petrucci note for note. If you lose the love you won't enjoy playing. Right now I'm off on a mission to rekindle that since I do love playing and I have to accept my limitations and find things that don't make it feel too much like work. I know I find that again and so I'll keep playing. Ultimately I've never played for anyone but me and so long as I'm ok with what I'm doing and I still (slowly) learning I'll keep at it
  3. Great work maltomario. It's great you can do all that yourself. Saves a lot. But like you say it takes a long time if you are doing it in your spare time. That's one reason I pay for that kind of project. I don't think my wife would be happy with the bathroom in pieces for a year .
  4. Come on - it is a toilet. In a man cave. The seat is supposed to be up. Apparently you didn't watch this. You might want to change your mind about the seat
  5. Wow lots of work. Looks like it will be very nice when done. I wish I had a basement.
  6. Have they changed the coutours of the newer ones? I love the neck on my Manta Ray, be a shame if they changed them it was one of the things that they were most applauded for...great necks
  7. There are some monster players on this board and some of them I suspect are as good as some of the guitar heros. I am personally a big MHUK, Frets99 fan as well as a JKATER (for acoustic) fan and am totally blown away by these guys chops. But there is a big difference between a really good player and some of the guys being talked about. First off they are global influences whether you like them or not. Secondly often they are masterful song/riff writers. Remember if you play Little wing as well as Jimi you still copied him...how many people are copying you? :poke: Some of the I'm better than so and so is pure ego nothing else. I mentioned this to an old teacher who remarked that Mark Knopfler was nothing special "oh, how may gold records do you have?"...and I got a new teacher shortly afterwards . As soundcreation says there more to being famous than talent there is writing, and how you mesh with the band you are in. I think of Dave Navarro with the Chile Peppers, good guitarist but style didn't fit the band. And for the record pretty much everyone is better than me but I can tell a really talented guitarist from an adaquate one
  8. I'm serious though bro!! I picked that guitar up played a lick followed by squealing like a girl!! ayiiiiiiiiiii!!!! Did you grimace like you were being taken from behind by a camel??? Seriously it would turn me off if an expensive guitar had any problems with it. That's why you pay the big bucks for them, to get quality workmenship.
  9. Come on Frets you should know that you don't spend that kind of money for nice frets...you spend it for the incredible tone. The fact that you need to set it up properly afterwards is just their way of helping you learn how to do setups and fret dressings..as a bonus for spending that kind of coin
  10. so how are you at time and rhythm? do you value a good feel for rhythm in guitar playing Not good enough Very important. I believe if you have good timing and rhythm you can make out of key stuff work to some degree
  11. Saw it on the airplane back from the east coast...I wouldn't be surprised if I was one of a handful watching it It was enjoyable but I'm glad I didn't spend money to go see it
  12. As far as hobbies yes Music. I've been trying to do it the longest and I'm the most serious about it (when it comes to hobbies). I used to do a lot of scuba and was heavily into underwater photography...what I'm going to do with +1000 slides and a film camera/housing setup is still a mystery in this day of digital everything. And I used to fence sabre which was a ton of fun and a great workout but both have been essentially dropped due to lack of people to do it with and time. Guitar I can play every night if only for a few hours, these other hobbies required a more significant time period of dedication
  13. Well in my case it might be a case of familiarity but when I went down to check out MIA none of them felt better than my current 03 MIM. I did this to see if it might be worth getting rid of the MIM which needs a refret or a new neck and use the $$ to buy a "better" guitar. But seems that I really like the neck I have ...maybe I got lucky. The pups are ok but based on my love affair with my BG Pure90's I'll look to get a set of Vintage 60's after I get the re-fret done
