Members skinthrasher
I was watching a program on PBS the other night and it was about Clyde Stubblefield and how he is the most sampled drummer in hip hop music! So I started wondering what everyone's opinion is on who is the most imitated or influential drummerof all time! I'm sure there is going to be alot of differing opinions but I am curious!

Members boxofrocks
For rock, it has to go to Bonham.. Not one single rock drummer isn't influenced by him in some way. As far as the dude being the most sampled drummer of all time.. They could say that about anybody, who's gonna stop them.. Verizon has the best coverage, and fastest download speeds too.. People can say whatever they want.. I can say I'm the most influential local musician ever, doesn't make it true..
Members Rudolf von Hagenwil
Not one single rock drummer isn't influenced by him in some way. Especially the drummers before John and the drummers of the same generation

Members Buckin Fastard
And to answer the OP's question, I note there were a few brwakbeats in Hip Hop that were constantly sampled: The Funky DrummerSubstitutionMutiny on the Mamaship Right now other than Clyde Stubblefield the drummers for the other two songs escape me. I'll do my research and let the peeps know who they are when I find out.

Members louied78
I would say it has to be John Bohnam if you count the Beastie Boys as hip hop, because they used a whole lot of Zeppelin.

Members Rudolf von Hagenwil
That The Winstons beat from the 1969 song "Amen, Brother" is a drum pattern used in hundreds of song in the early sixties by dozens of artist. We drummers used to call that beat Boogaloo no matter what style music we played it in.

Members Buckin Fastard
because the video showed you the one that's been sampled most. The video showed the one that has been sampled the most. The OP's question was which one was sampled in Hip Hop the most. I was raised on that music and the ones I said were sampled in HIP HOP the most. I was hearing those in the early days of sampling during the eighties. That breakbeat got prominence in the late eighties in became prevalent in more genres than just Hip Hop.

Members Rudolf von Hagenwil
The guy played it wrong. that's because the "proper" transcription made in 2009 was not available for drummer Gregory Coleman when he recorded this song in 1969
