  1. Finally! Someone with a unique, well thought out and original argument! The old {censored} sandwich cliche! Brilliant! Have you seen the Justin Bieber documentary about his life and struggles? It's totally a great heartfelt movie full of suspense, and action, and it has a happy ending. No? Well you can't make a decision about it until after you have sat through the entire 2 hour movie.
  2. all you can do is talk about why you "think" it might suck. To play devil's advocate, I don't have to eat a {censored} sandwich to know that it's not gonna taste good.
  3. No way in hell !!! Right now, I got two men in black suits on the way to Concordia to investigate. ...3...2...1...here comes the turd in the punch bowl.
  4. I'm wondering how many people in this thread have actually run a CNC machine. I ran them for a living about 10 years ago and I can tell you that they sure as {censored} aren't as precise as everyone in here is assuming them to be. My company ripped out the WWII (1940-ish) conomatic screw machines to replace them with Fuji CNC's. They were slower and less precise and sensors and tooling were constantly breaking and that was running off forgings that were already relatively close to tolerance. The cono screw machines were carving raw product from bar steel. We are talking about aerospace and automotive bearings with tolerances within thousandths of an inch. The only upside for our company was that you could train any tom, dick, or harry to run them and the older screw machines were more of a craft. It took a certain type of mechanical person to be able to run them effectively. Anyways I can hear a difference between a Seymour Duncan/Dimarzio and something like a Novak/Fralin/BG. If you can't hear the difference you are tone deaf or kidding yourself. There is a difference. You can paint a Honda red and tell yourself it's a Ferrari but it isn't.
  5. If I had a Deusenburg I wouldn't put in GFS pickups. I like GSF pickups for what they are but I wouldn't put them in a really expensive guitar. If you are on a tight budget I would just save, work overtime, sell some excess gear or whatever you need to do to get a really nice set of pickups. I just doubt that in the long run you'd be happier with the Dream 180's in that thing. I like dream 180's (had them in my Squier '51) but if you are gonna compare GFS with something like Fralins or Curtis Novak pickups (which are never mentioned on this board for whatever reason and are the best pickups I have ever heard), it's like comparing a Honda, to a Ferrari. The Honda is a nice car...but {censored} man it ain't no Ferarri. Both will get you to the grocery store but 1 of those is gonna make people stop and stare. Anyways your mileage may vary.
  6. I'm pretty sure all CIJ that've been made this century are alder bodies. The CIJ is pretty decent apart from the pickups, which has been mentioned, but I haven't played an MIA, so my opinion ain't worth much. Negative. The J Mascis Jazzmaster is Basswood and CIJ. For what it's worth there isn't anything inherently bad about Basswood. Most people who talk {censored} about Basswood have never owned a Basswood guitar and are just copying what they have seen others say about Basswood. Is it a bit softer? Yep. Not enough to notice IMO. I haven't found that it dents easier than alder or ash and I have never been able to tell a difference in weight. The J Mascis Jazzmaster that I owned was just as heavy as my alder Tele. The first real guitar that I owned was a MIJ Jaguar back in the mid 90's and it never had a dent up until I sold it. If you notice, a lot of shredder axes are made of Basswood and off the top of my head Ibanez JEMs are made of Basswood and they certainly not cheap. It's supposed to be sonically neutral if you believe the tonewood marketing hype. It's supposed to have more sustain and resonance than alder. Lets remember that leo Fender didn't select Alder because of its tonal properties, he chose it because it was cheap and readily available. From wiki "Ease of working and good acoustic properties also make it popular for electric guitar and bass bodies and wind instruments such as recorders. In the past, it was typically used (along with Agathis) for less-expensive models. However, due to its better resonance at mid and high frequency, and better sustain than alder, it is now more commonly in use with the "superstrat" type of guitar. It can also be used for the neck because of its excellent material integrity when bent and ability to produce consistent tone without any dead spots according to Parker Guitars. In the percussion industry, basswood is sometimes used as a material for drum shells, both to enhance their sound and their aesthetics. It is also the wood of choice for the window-blinds and shutters industries."
  7. Metallica cut their hair because they are losing it. If Dave isn't losing it then what is the problem?
  8. Change the World was played on the same pop stations that featured The Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync. If that's not a mainstream artist then I will eat my hat. I like Clapton but he isn't exactly an unheard of indie band. He's pretty mainstream and has written his fair share of pop songs.
  9. compared to iggy pop - I agree...don't be stupid..thanks for playing along! Pretentious musicians make baby Jesus cry. Do you smell your own farts and become deeply satisfied with yourself?
  10. Rivers doesn't even play guitar anymore. From what I hear he just picks up an acoustic for one song and then smashes it. I hear they are making a new Happy Days video where Rivers dresses up as Fonzie and jumps the shark. A simple, "I don't really like Weezer anymore" would have sufficed.
  11. For my 15th birthday (back in '95) my dad took me to the local guitar shop and told me I could get any electric in the store within reason. I picked a Fender Jaguar.
