  1. Thanks for the advice weeman, I'm going to have another shot at it now. My main problem is that the singers voice sounds crap, but I went overboard on comp and eq to try and change it. I was looking at trying a M/S technique, but the room I'm recording in is 7" high with wooden floors and ceiling and stone walls, so I think I should be relying on more directional mics. We have used every duvet I could find to damp the sound
  2. Thanks for all your help guys. We put aside a few weeks to try and record an album, we got a few days in and the drummer tore a ligament in his leg (kick drum leg ). He can still play using the other side of a double bass pedal, but there isn't much point in doing recordings like that, so we're out of it for a few weeks. However, we did get a few takes. Have a listen and see what you think. I think "Dance" is probably the best mix, or maybe "little old blue". www.myspace.com/rosietheband I'd love some crit on my mixing (and the band could probably do with some too ). I'm still not happy with the sound, but it's better than anything we've had before. I have very little experience with this, just what I have read/picked up. My main problem is the drums. I would really like to go for a more punchy, in your face sound, but I don't really know where to start. If anyone has heard "Mary" by Supergrass (fantastic song if you haven't), that's pretty much what I'm looking for (maybe a little ambitious with my equipment but I would like to have a go). Any tips would be much appreciated . Cheers!
  3. Sweet! An answer that doesn't involve spending more money! Thanks Just to be sure, I was planning on panning them left and right. I suppose as I'm not really on a time scale I can always experiment and if I don't like it I can spend money () Cheers!
  4. I'm finally getting my act together and buying a serviceable set of drum mics. I'm going for a 4 mic setup (2 overheads, 1 kick, 1 snare). I like the clean sound you get from this kind of setup. BTW we are recording a Pearl Export with Zildjian medium crash, new beat hats, a sweet ride and a crazily loud china which I think I will have to do something about (sounds great live though). I currently have a Shure SM58 (which I will use on the snare, properly placed, with the wind guard removed). I'm going to buy an AKG D112 (unimaginative I know, but I've used them before, and they don't seem to loose their value ). I'm a bit stuck for the overheads. Ideally I'd like the use 2 Rode NT1a (or similar), but money is short, and I really cant afford it. A friend has lent me his Behringer B1 (shh) which I have experimented with. With the insane presence boost removed via some eq it sounds ok. However, I don't really want to buy one to match it with, because I don't love it. I have found a Studio Projects B1 for a reasonable
