  2. Pump Audio has changed the 50/50 licensing fee split to 65/35 this year (in favor of Pump). However you still receive 100% of the PRO writer's royalties and 50% of the PRO publisher's royalty. Not that bad of a deal. Make sure Pump/Getty Images register your tracks with your PRO. Their reviewing process is very, very slow. Figure on waiting a year before your tracks are accepted and in their library. John
  3. "It's hard to imagine an A&R person saying, "Gee, I really love this music, but this demo was only done on a four-track, I think I'll pass." They're looking for hit songs and unique artists! One of the most successful songs to come through TAXI was recorded on an 8-track in a bedroom" Yeah, but that was years ago. Most listings today ask for broadcast quality. Also, it's gotta be exactly what the listing is looking for or it won't make it through TAXI's mechanism. Best, John
  4. Actually TAXI has changed drastically from their original concept. Mainly because the music industry has changed drastically. The song demo days are over. Everyone wants a finished product. The Internet and affordable high quality recording gear (DAW's) changed the nature of the Industry. Many TAXI's listings are for placements in film and TV. When TAXI first started, there were many listings for artists looking for new songs. A piano/vocal or guitar/vocal was acceptable for submitting back then. Radio-ready/ broadcast quality is now a necessity to get forwarded by TAXI. Just the nature of the Beast, regardless if you go through TAXI or anyone in the Industry. Best, John

I've tried to find out what they used the track for, but no answer from the newspaper. John

Also.. if in the future someone wants to use my stuff. do I still keep the copyright? If you want to officially copyright a song (music & lyrics) use this form: http://www.copyright.gov/forms/formpa.pdf Yes, you can copyright the 11 songs as a compilation. For instance, list all 11 songs and then add "contained in" whatever title you're using for the CD. You can find all the answers to copyrights here: http://www.copyright.gov/ Best, John
