  1. funny fact: you know what one word has recently popped up in 20% of new divorce filings? Facebook. haha. why dont i find that surprising. *removes vegas pictures from facebook page*
  2. I don't see how paying someone very little for something worth a lot is a crime. If he held a gun to the guy's head and made him sell it I could see that but with the internet there is no reason to not know what something is worth. I wouldn't want that on my conscience but I have had people bid up ebay auctions I have run so high for junk that I have felt bad about it. At the end of the day the guy's post probably was made up anyway. theres 2 crimes here. one is taking the guys guitar after lying about its worth representing a place of business. the second is taking in merchadise for the store then stealing it. but as i said, even if he made up the whole BS story, he still needs to be fired (which has likely happened already). torontos a big city, but it has a bit of the small town vibe sometimes. people in the other local guitar shops already know about this douche, so he wont be easily finding a new job in a music store here. the moral of the story? dont brag about theft on the net.
  3. Here's the thing though: no one here has any real facts about what happened. If it happened at all. All there was was a post on the internet. It could be 100% real, and it could be 100% bull{censored}, or anywhere in between. Regardless, there's no way for anyone here to know, so there's certainly no good reason to get involved with the whole thing and contact the guy's employer. That is as clear a case as possible of sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. its a store i shop at. if the employees arent trustworthy, i will tell their boss. its a courtesy for smooth business, not just spite because i think the guy is a little {censored}tard. and just cause i found out on the net, doesnt mean i let it slide. if it was GC, id leave it to someone else. if it turns out to be a false statement, then he should probably still get his ass canned for exactly the same reasons - he makes the store look untrustworthy.
  4. Wow, and now this thread has gone a bit out of hand. I was there for the first thread and as I said before. The big issue of the first thread was that he had the balls to come on here and expect us all to cheer him on for his accomplishment. secondly, I brought up in the original thread why he didn't just tell the guy to go to a vintage guitar retailer such as 12th fret, mojo music, capsule, etc., and he said that they HAVE sent people in the past to 12th fret, in fact there was a guy asking a few hundred bucks for an old LP that is currently in 12th fret's store hanging for around 12,000.00.................. So he knew that sending people with vintage gear that knew nothing about what they had to an actual retailer that would take care of them was the right thing to do. In this case he did not do that, he did the opposite and decieved an old man and got a new guitar out of it. ah, so this was toronto... *ponders getting someones ass fired*
  5. so what did they retail for back then? $150 or so? fine, hand GC their precious $150, and be done with it. not GC dumbass. (and i think you already know the rest of your coment is assinine)
  6. If the employees knew the value of the guitars this is a pretty clear case of both theft by swindle and theft from their employer for the retail value of the guitars. In most states this would be a felony. should be here as well. if anyones managed to pinpoint which store and go in to tell the management, im betting they are already fired. LM is a large corporate chain, and even this little old discussion on the internet is probably bad enough press for them to want to make it go away. LM is owned by yorkville sound. they are the canadian distributor for gibson.
  7. Anyone I know could tell you that a vintage car is worth more than a new one, a fully-functional colonial estate is worth more than a new home, and a vintage guitar is probably worth more than a new one. I dunno what company you keep. So, you're telling me that any person you know would dive right into anything that someone who makes money from reselling used products says about an item's value? You're REALLY telling me some funny things about the people you like to keep the company of. Their reputation didn't go anywhere except for with this forum, because that dimwitted seller still thinks the guitars he handed over for free are worth absolutely nothing. most vintage cars arent worth more than new ones, nor most "vintage" houses (certainly not up here in canada). remember, people fall for nigerian internet scams all the time, and 51% of your country was dumb enough to vote for dubya... twice. it would be nice if everyone could spot the liars, but they obviously cant, or we wouldnt be talking about this.
  8. They aren't, that's the point. They're just not mindless. It's common sense stuff. its not common sense to think a used beat up pos is worth more than new. sorry. none of the people i know who know nothing of guitars would think it was valuable if the l&m guy told em it wasnt. their reputation for trustwothy used/vintage guitar dealing just went to 0 because of some dumb{censored} employee.
  9. Hey, anybody know what happened with the Long & McQuade guy who scammed the old dude out of the vintage LP Jr? the joys of minimum wage employees (nothing to lose, no honour or responsibility). was this in toronto?
  10. Interesting thing is that there are no sebaceous glands on the human hands (i.e. our hands don't produce oils). Our hands get oily from touching other parts of the body. mostly the face/forehead i think. fretboards are pretty durable and while maple gets dirty if its raw, you probably wont have issues. neck back is different, but theres alot of variables. sweat and oils vary greatly person to person, but so does the response to them by any given piece of wood. maple especially can be unpredictable and twist even when finished in airtight poly. i have one "raw" neck. my sx. it gets some lemon oil once in a while, which doesnt really protect it much. feels realy nice and hasnt gone to pretzl form yet. but really this is luck. it could just as easily been a board that wanted to twist. the oil (even lemon oil briefly) only serves to slow the transfer of water in an out of the wood. "hand" oil would be just fine, assuming you dont sweat acid that damages the wood fibres.
  11. Not only is China hetting better at faking Gibson guitars, but they've nearly perfected Gibson's substandard quality control! :poke: ahh, that pic gets so much milage but yeah, the logo is generally fine in the "fake" gibson, as is the truss cover. its getting harder and harder to tell for non experts. ive even seen some with bound fret ends!
  12. take off the strings and give the fretboard a good cleaning with lemon oil. most guitars are rather dirty when new. i dont know what model that is, but there are some guitars that have dyed fretboards as well. 2 of my guitars had dirty fretboards that made my fingers black. a cleaning with lemon oil made it go away. you can clean the strings too, but its not usually the problem.
