  1. yes, constant references to 'chocolate' this and that and 'islam' are in no way disrespectful or racist. I would also contrast the heated booing of Obama at McCain's concession speech (which to McCain's credit, he asked them to stop) to the respectful clapping when Obama mentioned McCain's service in his victory speech. At least both candidates were graceful, however. -D
  2. So I guess it's not enough that Obama won by a landslide. It had to happen that the people who won now want to characterize everybody who didn't vote for him as a bunch of racists. Some people will never be happy, I guess. Not everyone, but certainly many people in the south. I've heard enough racist jokes and racial slurs over 25 years to know how many people would not ever vote for a black man. I've also met plenty of tolerant people in the south, so it's not everyone. But it's just naieve to say that it wasn't a significant factor for very many people. -D
  3. Yeah, this Prop 8 thing is embarrassing. How can people want to deny other people the same rights they enjoy? How does it hurt them to allow gays to marry? It's just not right. What really pisses me off is it passed based on a campaign of outright lying and misinformation that homosexuality would be taught in schools. Wtf? Are people that stupid? Even the superintendent of schools came on to say it wasn't true, but they just ran more ads so people wouldn't notice. That's what really pissed me off.
  4. Actually, most of the people who identified race as a deciding factor at the exit polls voted FOR Obama...not against him. That's because southern racists don't identify race as a factor. I know all about the new breed of quiet racism, lived in the south for 25 years. -D
  5. A great victory for islam and marxism. RIP USA 1776-2008. Congrats, the dumbest post I've read in any political thread, ever. On the other hand, the partying in the streets all over was quite a surprise. People were launching fireworks, dancing, etc. It kind of seemed like an independence celebration. -D
  6. The visuals... they burn...! ... trying not to form mental image...
  7. I see it more like a warning... the guy seems to be living in his own little world... Like I've said before, I have peace with God, but I don't claim to be better than anyone or to have ceased from making mistakes. My family and friends say I'm much less mean than I used to be. Whatever that means... If it was offensive, I apologize and take that back. FWIW, I disagree with you, but I don't think you're mean. Perhaps a bit fervent at times, though. Certainly many people are on both sides of the spectrum. -D
  8. Hm, obviously I called it a bit too early before. So, NOW can it be nasty name calling time? It kind of doesn't work when someone apologizes, so no! :-)
  9. Well, in general, mine too - though he's a bit of a "philisophical mechanic" and I find myself leaning more towards the metaphysics of Spinoza these days. You should check out Schrodinger's philosophical books then. German philosophy unified with Vedic metaphysics. I wish he had spent more time fleshing out his philosophy... but then I guess you can't fault him for seminal contributions to quantum physics. -D
  10. I think you are doing what we call in Brazil "catch the train in movement and wanting to seat in the driver's seat". Go back and read some posts to know where this is coming from. He's basically accusing my interpretation of christianity according to his own biased standards, and when I point out what I actually believe (and which has nothing to do with what I'm accused of), first he says it's irrelevant, then he changes the subject to the middle-ages catholic church, which I have NOTHING to do with. And please, don't tell me two billion christians don't believe in the new covenant when you're not even a Christian and you have no idea what is preached in a Christian church. I do. No, actually I'm not. I just think you're not following his argument. I read all of those posts, just chose not to respond until now. It is a fact that Christian belief has changed over time. It's funny, you are angry that I am claiming something about what you believe, when the entire new vs. old covenant dichotomy professes to speak for a whole other religion. Also, don't assume that because I'm not a Christian, I haven't studied Christianity or Christian beliefs. I come from a very different background, an inclusive one where it's encouraged to study other faiths. -D
  11. You never admit you're wrong, do you? Whatever way you want to pull it, 2 billion people + many more others in 500 years of the post-Luther church, is hardly "irrelevant". He's saying their perspective now is irrelevant to what occurred historically. Ie. a belief that evolved over time is now very different from what was originally proposed, so this new covenant vs. old covenant thing is a false dichotomy. Edit: And anyways, it's always been a false dichotomy, because when speaking regarding the 'old covenant' you're speaking for other people who have a very different view of their own beliefs. -D
  12. nutshell: Spinoza's God is the Universe- that is one major thing that Hegel helps us understand about Spinoza's Ethics That is actually what Hindus believe as well, not multiple gods as was stated at some point in this thread. -D
