  1. Why? Mesa already said they can't make an exact clone so what's the point? The tone is all in the old transformers really. Sure, they could try and clone them but you know it won't be the same. Hell, just look at the 2203X and the original 2203....

I read somewhere that it's quoted as being "not as 3D sounding", primarily because of the different output transformer or something (I hope I've got the part right - it was some sort of transformer at least and I beleive there are two). However, if Danyeo and Gainfreak reckon that you can get pretty close with an unmodded Blue stripe (as mine was) then this ought to be good enough that most can't tell the difference. Besides - if it sounds how I want it to sound then who cares if it's a III, a IV, a IIC+ or whatever. This seemed like a good place to start looking for great tone and, at the price I got it for, it was a good idea to buy. At worst, if it's not for me the rarity of these amps in the UK ought to recoup me nearly all of the money I spent on getting it here. If only the damn couriers hadn't broken it. So provided that I have the reverb tank and the fan (and both are in working order), is there any reason I need an official Boogie head shell rather than having a carpenter build me something similar from the wood of my choice? I'm asking because if Boogie have to send something from the US, I'll be getting screwed on import duty once more, whereas having something built in this country might save me money and give me some opportunity to get a nice hardwood case or something. You can use any type of headshell you want. I would personally find a carpenter fix the headshell you already have as it would most likely be cheaper.

How good are you when it comes to working with wood? Given that there isn't TOO much damage, fixing up the headshell shouldn't be too much of a problem with some screws, glue and possibly even biscuits if you have a biscuit cutter. If not, do you have a local woodworking shop around? Maybe they could help fix it for you. It's {censored}ing bull{censored} what happened though. That's insane how it broke like that, especially considering the packing. Good luck with everything.
  5. I like the "dropping the package a few times" idea myself. Maybe get some friends and a baseball bat......

Highly unlikely, but still possible.

  12. Sigh, yes, the same one. I was already 200 megs into uploading it too.
  13. Anyone still interested in that LTE vid? I might be able to upload it to an FTP server.

True, but see if you could talk him down a little. Red stripes ARE probably the rarest of the Mark IIIs and are claimed to be the closest to the IIC+, next to the Blue stripes.

It's the short-head and has been well-maintained and has new tubes (2 6l6's and 2 el34's). Just wondering if I should be able to get close enough to the IIC+ tone. Will I have to put in 4 6l6's to nail it or is that not necessary. Any info on the difference in tone from the 15w vs the 75w modes would be helpful as well. As for a cab, I was thinking about getting a closed-back 1x12 recto cab, but it's only 60 watts. Will that be a major issue when running the head in 75 watt mode? The guy wants $825 US for it which seems alright since I don't have to pay for shipping. That seem about right? You'll be fine with the 2 EL34/2 6L6 combo but the general consensus is that 4 6L6s sound better. You'll have to hear the difference between the 15 vs 75 for yourself; there is a difference (I run mine at full Simul-Class power all the time). The price is too high and look for an Older Mesa/Boogie Thiele Cab on ebay or something with an EV speaker in it. Those things crush small animals about a mile away.
