  1. Good read. But I like my Sennheiser HD600 open back headphones better than any closed back set I have.
  2. To master a song, you need to practice it over and over. Oh, wait a minute, you mean, "Mastering", a song. Im not even gonna go there. This, is as big of debate, as what came first, chicken or the egg.
  3. This is just like the "Is it a mic'd amp or a amp modeling system". Many claim the can tell the difference. But when you put up some clips, they cant tell and just guess.
  4. Gas is going way the hell down. I bought a mackie control for $400. Actually other than that, the economy blows. Stores are dumping thier {censored} at lower rates and the sales are titties. $400 !!!!!! E-bay ???? Ive been keeping my eye out for one (I mix in the box) and for the past few months I have lost hope of scoring a cheap one. Congradulations on the find. Im jealous
  5. Big Wake Studio , named for a saying of my fathers. He always told us to "Live life to its fullist and leave a Big Wake behind you". Ive tried to do that all my life.
  6. Ida, MI You checked out my studio site? Yep been there before. But I couldnt remember where you were exactly. We are heading to Great Lakes, Illinois in November. My son left for the Navy two weeks ago and graduation is in November. We got our first letter from him today. Is that close to you (or am I way off) ?
  7. That's incorrect actually. But you're on to something. In the case of a 10:1 ratio, 1/10th is not how much it will be compressed, but how much you will be left with (9/10 will be compressed). Hence a 10:1 ratio compresses more than a 4:1 ratio. I fixed it I knew in my head but sometimes it doesnt come out that way
  8. Hey you know you are not that far from me.....:poke: Where you at Fuzz !!!! The OP said the person recording had about 15k in gear. Man I wish I had 15k in gear.
  9. With the ratio number, some get confused too. Flip it around to make it easy. If its 4:1 ratio then audio over the threshold will be reduced to 1/4. A 10:1 ratio would be reduced it to 1/10th of the original signal over the threshold.
  10. Is this what you do for a living? Nope. I record and play as a hobby and by word of mouth, I started getting calls. Now dont get me wrong, if I was to go out and buy boutique preamps and equipment, once I got better at recording, then Id charge more. But for what I have have and at this point capable of doing, I think its fair. Plus I enjoy it.
  11. I live i farm country Ohio. Im the only studio (i guess thats what it is) in a 50 mile radius. And those charge $50 to $100 per hour. I had a group of kids come down (50 miles). They went to a place that charged $75 per song and they got one take. ONE TAKE !!! Took them 20 minutes to do 3 songs, he then mixed them quickly. They said the wanted to redo one because of mistakes but he said thats another $75. According to them he spent an hour total with them. So that was $225 for an hour. And they got crap !!!! I actually heard one of the tunes. I spent 4 hours and gave them good mixes and charged $100 They are coming back in November for more. And others are calling and asking about prices. I guess I might get busy. There are alot of farm boy rockers in this area.
  12. . Peace. If I did it for a living, and had very expensive gear, and knew what I was doing, then Id charge alot more. I wish I would have started recording stuff 20 years ago.
  13. I have no overhead, other than electricity, so I guess its fine. Most have rent and utilities and other expenses related. $25 it is
