  1. You obviously haven't played or heard the right compressor then because none of my guitar's character or pick attack is altered or lost with the comp I use. I find it laughable that all of you guys who say you don't like compression use high gain dirt boxes. If you don't think you're using compression already, you need to pass the pipe. I'm sure there are compressors out there that don't color your tone or ruin your guitar's character. I just don't feel like spending $200 on a compressor that I won't use a whole lot, when I could spend that money on something I'd use every day. Also, I don't use any dirt boxes, let alone high-gain. I play mainly clean, aside from a Big Muff that's used for wall-of-fuzz type sounds.
  2. I've never been into compressors. I can't stand having my signal get altered at all. I want to hear the character of the guitar and my actual pick attack. Having a compressor just wouldn't work for me. I could definitely see how it could mess up your playing though. Just like using heaps of distortion could.
  3. I had one of the guvnor's for a while. While I liked it at first, it quickly fell out of favor. It doesn't have much of a dynamic sound and the tone sounds very sterile. Your first impression will be "Wow I'm playing through a marshall stack!" but once thats gone you really notice it's shortcomings. I really wouldn't go that far - I actually HAVE a Marshall half-stack, and you just don't get the same feeling as you do when there's actually a 4x12 involved. The tone just isn't the same either. You just can't emulate an actual 4x12 cabinet. You can EQ a thick tone, but it isn't going to make a combo, or even a 2x12 sound like a 4x12.
  4. I mostly use the Crunch channel of my XXX, which is supposed to be modeled on a modded Marshall (stop snickering). Guv'nor might be superfluous. Rat's are supposed to be Marshally, but then they aren't actually made by Marshall... From what I've heard on RAT's, (clips videos, etc.), they don't sound *too* Marshally. The Guv'nor is just that though - Marshall overdrive. It just isn't as tight as a Marshall amp's actual distortion/OD. Personally, I'd go for the RAT - but I like the sound of RAT pedals. I really wasn't impressed with the Guv'Nor+ after I actually had a chance to play around with it on my setup. It's not that it was bad, it was just not great. And for ~$70, you can get a lot of awesome dirt pedals.
  5. I had the Guv'Nor+ for about six months. It's basic Marshall overdrive. I already play through a Marshall, so I was basically going back and forth between my amp's distortion and the Guv'nor's distortion one day, and I realized that they were nearly identicle, but the amp's sounded a bit tighter. I also found that the Guv'nor sucked tone a bit - not a lot, but enough for me to notice that my amp sounded better without it in the chain. Now I just stick to my amp's distortion, so I haven't found the need to go shopping for another distortion/OD pedal.

  7. Now, I haven't read the topic, but is it safe for me to assume that this is the largest off-topic thread on HC?
  8. ^It's CRAZY light. Not even half of what my Strat weighs. It's also lighter than my Washburn, which I *think* is around 7 lbs. This thing has to be one of the lightest guitars I've picked up. Anyone else want to comment on it before I log off for tonight?
  9. Bump...anyone else? I'm going back to the shop first thing tomorrow morning, so I need some info before then!
  10. axegrinder, the neck on the one I played today was similar to the modern C shape neck on the Fender Standards, but not quite as thick. The satin finish on it felt really nice as well. Plus the cream binding was a really nice touch.
  11. ^I just printed the Overstock.com thing. I'll try to get the shop to price match it tomorrow... Anyone else want to comment on the guitar?
  12. The search is still down. I tried searching this just a little bit ago. So, has anyone else had this horrible bridge spacing problem? The one I was looking at looked like it was placed correctly. I didn't have a lot of time to play it, but just playing it unplugged it sounded fine. I didn't test the intonation on it, but I doubt it would have been off much. And, for the people that don't have this bridge issue, how is the guitar? This one looked good and played nicely. Like I said, I didn't get a lot of time playing it, but for the couple minutes I did, it felt nice. So, anyone else have an opinion on these?
  13. I saw one of these at a guitar shop today. Looked pretty nice, and I've been looking for a nice H/H mahogany guitar lately. So, what do you guys think of it? It's basically a top of the line Squier and fits what I'm looking for. Any opinions on it?
