  1. I will say when you find the spot, the EASIEST way to tell is the bass will be tight and not over or under subby (low lows) and the top will sound SMOOTH. Trust me, I bet you have NEVER heard smooth (unless you have been in the big studios)... I finally found my spot in my control room. I have minimal treatment and its been an issue but I moved everything forward 3 feet and voila- the difference is INCREDIBLE... The top end is CRAZY. What we norally hear on top 90% of the time is PHASING!
  2. I do think that the reason it is a bad thing is too many people do not have the tools or ability to set the EQ to a flat proper sound...they use it to shape the sound the way they like, failing to really fix the problem. Agreed! Nobody likes to set the room flat but of course it won't work otherwise!
  3. This is very common in the professional world. People regularely measure the response of the monitors at the listening position, then compensate with EQs to get it as flat as possible. That said, make sure the room and monitors are not the cause of the problem before you do anything else. THANK YOU! Its NEVER been a no no- thats internet BS! JBLs new power monitors have that BUILT IN but they call it ROOM COMPENSATION ( fancy for EQ )
  4. The bottom line is more do, than don't. AND its often done without the singers knowledge. Its not up to them, its up to the producer/label. And things like Melodyne and Autotune work way better when used less- slap them on a good tuned vocal and it becomes even better pitchwise. I love it when people think they can tell... No, you can ONLY tell when its working too hard. And then people say, "I don't like how it sounds"... Right. If you autotune a track and send it back out to the board at mixdown, it will fix 90% of the change you heard- just by returning analog. The singer is usually long gone by the time pitch correction is applied anyway. And when used properly on a decent original take - sound stellar. Now who thinks an artist is going to admit pitch correction....
  5. Heres my no frills location- control room happy rack synths amps/effects tracking room (complete with 1970s kenwood receiver for tracking room playback) Cant forget the skate ramp I just set up dual TVs with a PS3 and digital cable! Disneyland just lost out as the happiest place on earth!
