  1. Very nice rig. I'd pull that extra 21# amp out unless you think the get needs it. Maybe even look at getting a lighterweight "spare" amp.

  3. dedmeet, NOW, with all powered speakers, you need to invest in proper AC power cabling. Get them in any color as long as it's black ;>) And also now comes the matching, nice cases for hauling everything. Covers are nice to keep the speakers looking good, too. Boomerweps
  4. Bugzie, While the RMX2450 are great workhorses, you really ought to look at replacing them with PLXs, new OR used. Your back will thank you. Especially if you can use the 13# 1804 or 1104 in the mix. I'm 53 and switched to all PLX a few years back and am really glad I did. Rotomolded SKBs? I think they can handle abuse a little better and absorb impact shock a little better (for them and the gear) compared to the hard plastic standard SKB BUT lack of rear rails keeps me away from those. I need my I/O panels and put them on the backside. That and the little rear window thing, don't like that. With your CURRENT system, other the the power pop, unless you are going to add in a laptop computer, it seems you really don't need the DR260, IMHO. Renting out the snake is a sweet deal. Do you have a "you damage it, you pay for the fix" clause for the rentals? Boomerweps

The system is plenty loud for the venues we play. The JRXs can be significantly upgraded by replacing the horn driver. About $30 each from www.partsexpress.com for a selenium driver. Check out: Watch out for the behringer DIs when placed near or on a guitar amp power amp section. NASTY hum gets picked up. Other than a LITTLE reinforcement, running the kick (or bass guitar) through those speakers (and MOST 2 way tops) without subs robs the power from the other frequency bands and dominates the speaker cone movement. Go real easy with that. Actually, I wouldn't bother with the rest of the drums for now, not enough system to support them. I'd only upgrade vocal mics for now and look into getting a sub, crossover and amp for that next to support the low end and free up the tops to concentrate on the mids and HF. With subs, put the 2450 there and you can use RMX1450 for the tops and they will appear LOUDER. Once subs are sorted out, THEN get a decent kick mic. Nice starter system. I hope you have speaker stands for those tops for now. You don't mention "infrastructure". Starting out, get some medium duty flight case EWI racks from www.audiopile.net and don't fall down the plastic case hole like I did. Get quality 12 awg speaker and POWER cables. Sort out your electrical early. Don't depend on handy power outlets or 16awg orange cords to supply what's needed. Boomerweps
  6. Bob, Depending on the condition of the Peavey Hisys speakers, they aren't that bad to start with provided they are powered at their program rating (or a little more). These are the UK built version of the SP series in the USA. Even the earliest models marked "150 watts RMS MAX" really like 300 watts or so for live sound. I had some of those earliest version/series marked like that and with 235 watts (samson S700) per speaker they were alright, but with 450 watts (RMX2450) they were GREAT! The amps got switched for "no-subs" gigs and were very small venues so we did NOT push the SPL but just having the extra power in reserve made everything sound so much clearer. I HOPE you got those Yammies in the M Monitor version, MUCH more flexibility of use. Even still, for now I'd get a decent power amp with enough power to consider using those Yammies as monitors off one side (propped by a wood wedge, if needed) and the hisys off the other. Good power to decent speakers cleans up the system a lot. Then onto the new(er) mixer ;>) Everybody starts out small & cheap unless they have the priviledge to work with others already owning better level gear and can afford ($$$) to not cheap out at first. 7. SpaceNorman, AMAZING. You have the "starter" but usable for many years PA package I would recommend to everyone ;>) Only thing I wouldn't recommend to somebody starting out is the DRPA, at least until you have an idea of most all the functions it can do. Geez, bang for the buck, mixer, speakers, power amps and organization are truely right on the money. I was stunned when I read your list. Seriously. Boomerweps
  8. Might be an odd comparision but how is the Alto comp compared to the Behringer? Looks like you're using a Behringer crossover. I love the pullover amp rack, tons of space. Which brand? How many monitor mixes are you running? Boomerweps
  9. Currently 52yo retired from the US Navy at 39 and finally got to do the bar band thing. After supplying my own mics and a 4 into 1 Shure submixer, cabling & stands to mic my drums and an SM12IV monitor, I got more into the PA aspect. Mostly to be less dependent on others. After the band broke up I was left with a Behringer MX2442A that I bought by myself for them. Traded that for a Peavey Unity 2002-16RQ with case and a few $. Bought a used Samson S700, original SP2s, a Nady GEQ31 (new!), and an Alesis Microverb 3. Built a 6RU rack and some cables and was ready to rock! Later joined a band with the MX2442A buyer!!! Currently (band means owned by another but used with my primary band): Mixers: A&H GL2400-24 (band) Peavey RQ2314 (personal, small gig) Behringer UB802 (DJing, recording) Each mixer is great for it's purpose, ALL highly recommended. Mains: 2 Yorkville U15B (band) Subs: 2 Yorkville UCS1 15" subs (band) was LS808B (now for sale) Monitors: 2 Yorkville E210B (also used as mains for small DJ/band gigs) 2 Yorkville NX20 (used, good sound, low weight) 2 Yamaha SM12IV (speakons added, E210B replaced them) I am extremely happy with my speaker choices. The E210Bs have less low end than I expected and have to have the LF boosted when used for mains alone, super monitors though. Mains Amp rack 6RU: Rackrider w/ voltmeter/lights dbx DRPA PLX1804 (tops, great power at 13#, 900 per top) PLX3002 (bridged subs, 1500 watts each) Custom I/O panel rear Monitor amp rack6RU: PLX2402 Custom I/O panel rear Dual 20amp power strips, one front, one back I went through several unmatched amps, all adaquate(Samson, Carvin, RMX, Mackie). Went ALL PLX because I trust QSC from the RMX experience, increase power, and to make the amp racks a one man lift. VERY happy with that. Having a matching look, controls, and all the same filtering and I/O placement is another fun factor for same series amps. FOH 6RU rack: dbx 231EQ mains(used, great value) dbx231EQ, monitors (also used) Numark CDN15 CD player Custom I/O panel rear for EQs (speeds setup) 2nd FOH 6RU rack: American DJ power unit with voltmeter & lights (used, love the voltmeter) 2 Lexicon MPX200 (FX) (Used, Nice, half the reason is they match and can use a shorty IEC cable) 2 TC Electronics C300 comp/gates (GREAT easy to use comps, used) 1 Behringer 4x compressor (adaquate multicomps cheap) Hosa TS-TS snake for FX 1 HOSA & 1 EWI insert snake for Comps FX & comp snakes left connected to speed setup. Snakes (all XLR, all with stage boxes unless noted): Whirlwind Medusa 24x6x100 (band) Whirlwind Medusa 16x4x100 Whirlwind Mini 6 - 6x25 Proco 6x50 Custom 4x30 (built as good or BETTER than the mini-6) All were bought used, are very sturdy and easy to fix if abused. The 2 bigger snakes required repairs when bought used. Microphones: 2 Shure Beta 58 (band) 2 Shure SM58, 2 SM57 (band) 1 Shure SM57 1 Shure Beta 56 2 CAD SA1000 3 Behringer XM8500 5 Audix i5 (prefer them to SM57s, bought used and sold off most of my 57s) 3 EWI C61 pencil condensers (best inexpensive condensors around) 1 ATM Pro25 (backup kick mic) 1 Audix D6 (primary kick mic, luv it!) 1 RS Sennheiser 604 copy 1 Behringer ECM8000 1 Crown CM311A Can't recommend the CM311A highly enough for singing drummers, XM8500 are quite good for a throwaway price great for abusive vocalists (for the Behringer haters, some say buy it for the case and mic clip & throw away the mic ;>), EWI C61s great for the price used as drum overheads, love the D6 on my 20x16 kick, AKG D12E was better on my 22x16 (now sold). Direct Boxes: 1 Behringer DI-100 1 Behringer DI-20 Adaquate, do NOT set on combo amps, inadaquate sheilding, they get noisy. Tom Clamp mounts: 3 E604 style tom mounts 5 Shure A56D tom mounts (heavy but super heavy duty) MOST speaker cables are all 12ga and speakons. Much 4 wire, a few 2 wire. 4 are jumper speakon to 1/4" cables. Several long 12AWG power cables, some quads, some duplex. I swear by using BLACK 12ga power cables for non distro bar gigs. Speakon with 12ga for speakers, 4 wire great for routing 2 sets of signals per side, cuts down on running & coiling cables. I have UndercoverNYC padded covers for the E210Bs and LS808Bs. Well worth the $ for keeping the speakers looking nice. Reviewing my post, I want to note with the following exceptions, the bulk of my personal gear was bought USED. NEW were E210B, SM12IV, dbx DRPA, 6RU racks, speaker covers, UB802, Behringer comp & DIs and a few mics. I did buy AC cable in bulk and made most of my AC cabling. Most all the speaker and snake cables were used. Mic cables were pretty much all new. Boomerweps
  10. I have a nice bumper sticker from "the Starving Musician", similar to a drink & drive one: Just remember, PLAY AN ACCORDIAN, GO TO JAIL. It's the law. Boomerweps
