  1. "Stair casing" does not exist with modern digital audio. There is not a "connecting of dots" with straight lines going between each sample point. The original waveform is reconstructed mathematically based on the sample points. Nyquist's theorem tells us that if we sample at twice the rate of the maximum frequency, there is only one way to reconstruct the waveform. If you consider a simple sine wave, there is no other waveform that can be mathematically constructed with a given set of sample points assuming the original waveform was correctly sampled at twice the frequency of the sine wave. If you are considering Neumann, I would avoid the TLM103 and instead listen to the TLM193. Better yet, listen to them both and you'll probably like the TLM193 more. I got one used for $600. Rick
