Hammond Unveils New Flagship XK-5 Portable

Hammond's new XK-5 Organ draws on original blueprints of Hammond's classic B-3 organ to capture its sound and feel with unmatched accuracy and soul. An all-new sound engine combines modeling and sampling to reproduce every nuance of the electro-mechanical tone wheel generator, while a custom keyboard action duplicates the heft, bounce, key travel, and multi-contact behavior of classic Hammond console organs. Other features include four full sets of drawbars, plus pedal drawbars, a controls layout identical to a B-3, a new and ultra-realistic digital Leslie effect, and the ability to duplicate individual organs down to the model, year, condition, and serial number--with downloadable tone wheel profiles upcoming from famous Hammond organists. MAP $3,695. Also, Hammond's new Heritage series of manual console options expands the XK-5 into a full transportable B-3 console. The XK-5 Pro System has a modern look and comprises the XLK-5 lower manual (with same key action and multi-contact system as the XK-5). Its vertically extended side panels replace those on the XK-5, creating a gapless dual-manual organ that can be carried as one piece. The optional XPK-250BK 25-note pedalboard in black finish with EXP-250 expression pedal, and open-footprint black aluminum folding stand with matching bench, complete the Pro System. The Model A-3 looks like a traditional B and includes the A-3 lower manual with thicker side panels than the XLK-5, matching wooden A-3 legs and wooden bench, and XPK-250W pedalboard in red walnut finish.

Sacco Adds Six-String With Revolutionary Neck Design

After unveiling his revolutionary Butterfly Wing Neck Through technology on a five-string bass in late 2015, Michael Gerard Sacco, its inventor and builder, has now applied it to a new a six-string electric guitar. This truly new--and patented--type of neck eliminates shortcomings associated with bolt-on, set, and conventional neck through designs by fully integrating the instrument's neck into the body. Designed specifically for each instrument's type, size, and shape, Sacco's "butterfly wings" extend out into the body through carved resonant chambers to produce far superior amplitude and sustain, verified in testing by acclaimed veteran audio engineer, producer, and KAP Audio owner Pete Pantelis, as well as a much fuller and richer sound. The guitar is featured in Black Cherry Burst finish and is equipped with EMG's best electronics: an 89XR in the neck position with single coil tap and an 81TWX in the bridge position with coil tap; separate volume and active tone controls for each pickup; EMG presence control, Exciter, and 20db boost switch, all active; along with a three-position Switchcraft Selector switch. The bridge is a fixed Babicz, and the tuners are Grover Rotomatics. Abalone diamond fret markers are inlaid into the 24-fret 12-degree-radius fingerboard.

STRINGTone For "New String" Sound

SoundSynergies' STRINGTone maintenance and conditioning formula helps musicians restore the big, warm, clean tone that comes with putting on a new set of strings. Unlike other messy and largely ineffective liquid silicone string cleaners, STRINGTone's carrier component evaporates in minutes after each quick and easy application, leaving strings and fretboard ready to play. A micro-thin dry film remains to lubricate and guard against oxidation and corrosion, extending string performance life significantly. There are no troublesome build-ups or migration with repeated applications. Guitar and other instrument strings can be notoriously difficult to clean properly, particularly wound strings that by design have many cracks and crevices that dust particles can find their way into. STRINGTone penetrates through these tiny openings down to the core layer of strings. From strings of acoustic and electric guitars to mandolins and ukuleles to pianos to classical violins, violas, and cellos, STRINGTone works regardless of string type, including on variations like coated or gut violin strings.

Republic Guitars Redefines The Resonator

The resonator guitar was the first attempt to amplify a guitar in a pre-electronics era and it became the choice instrument for the traveling Bluesmen in the '30s and '40s because of its volume and rugged metal body. When Texas teenager Frank Helsley heard Johnny Winter playing acoustic blues on a resonator it signaled the start of a lifelong obsession, both as a player and designer. In 2007 he founded Republic Guitars. Two years later, he introduced the Highway 61, a travel-sized guitar with a single cut-away that's both loud and highly playable. The Republic Reso-phonic Guitar range covers both classic single-cone and tri-cone models, adding features that give a modern dimension to these very traditional instruments, such as body cutaways and options like classic nickel or "distressed" metal finishes. Republic offers a baseline of materials from wood to brass or steel with options for full or parlor size bodies and a selection of cover plates. All guitars are equipped with mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, adjustable truss rod, and bone nut.

Genzler Adds New BA210-3 Bass Array

New to Genzler Amplification's innovative Bass Array line of bass guitar cabinets, the BA210-3 a 2x10" model. Its innovative design blends the punch and quickness of premium Neodymium dual 10" drivers in a vented bass reflex enclosure and the performance and pattern control of a 4x3" neodymium driver line array element. Full, deep low-frequency response is delivered by the high-efficiency dual 10" woofers, providing excellent support of the fundamental for the lower strings of the instrument. Its selective crossover point overcomes the "beaming" (pattern narrowing) effects of a full-range signal being reproduced by larger low-frequency drivers--which is common in many current small cabinet designs. Packed into a lightweight (38 lbs) 500 watt, 8 ohm cabinet, the BA210-3 also lowers midrange and high-frequency distortion by allowing the use of small, 3" high-performance cone transducers that would be unsuitable without the increased acoustic sensitivity obtained by the array design. Additionally, it provides a much more open, smoother midrange and high-frequency response. MAP $1,069.

[TD=colspan: 1]Dialtune Drum System To Debut At NAMM

In a new concept for acoustic drumming, Seattle startup Bedson Drum Co. is introducing "dialtune," a proprietary system that replaces traditional lugs and tension rods, transporting a 100-year-old design into the 21st century. The dialtune system ensures even tuning across the surface of any drumhead, offering drummers unmatched precision when tuning their drums. The ease of use and consistency of dialtune drums allow for optimal tuning to be achieved effortlessly, resulting in better resonance and consistent sound regardless of the shell materials or drumhead types used. Replacement of the tension rods allows the drumhead to be removed and replaced quickly and with minimal effort, letting drummers spend more time playing and less time tuning or replacing heads. Bedson Drum Co. founder Bryan Bedson theorized that a cable and pulley system would apply even tension to a drumhead, while allowing a drummer to raise or lower the pitch of the drum at a single point. A prototype--using a drum shell, drum hoop, steel cable, and scrap parts from Home Depot--proved the system worked beautifully. Later designs refined the look and feel, and the final product is set to debut in Nashville.

This NASA-grade ring/sleeve slides onto drumsticks and securely stays in place at the thickest diameter of the stick. The tension of the ring clamps onto any type of drumstick, benefitting drummers from beginner up to elite levels. With StickTwirl, drummers can control and maneuver a drumstick with precision and ease, twirling a stick on the attached index finger without fear of losing control or dropping the sticks. StickTwirl also adds more "snap," or force, to a drummer's playing, as well as more pivot control, power, and precision. With a consistent fulcrum point, the index finger slides through the ring of the StickTwirl naturally--no need for the drummer to change their grip. A consistent fulcrum point also provides more power and better control over the sticks, letting drummers perfectly balance their sticks for 360 degrees of rotation around the finger.

Yamaha TransAcoustic Guitar Has Built-In Reverb, Chorus

Yamaha's new TransAcoustic Guitar re-creates the experience of playing in a rich, live room without needing any external amplification or effects. Originally developed in the company's acoustic piano division, TransAcoustic technology is now available in the Yamaha LL-TA handcrafted dreadnought and LS-TA concert acoustic guitar. When the guitar is played, the strings' vibration is picked up by an actuator inside the guitar that conveys it to the guitar body and to the air around the guitar, resulting in stunningly authentic reverb and chorus effects. Three knobs located on the side of the guitar provide easy adjustment of the level of the effect. Other controls include a line out volume level and an on/off switch. The two models are available in Vintage Tint and Brown Sunburst finishes, with clear pick guards and ebony fingerboards. Each features a solid Engelmann spruce top that has been aged with Yamaha A.R.E. technology as well as rosewood backs and sides, a combination that produces a warm yet powerful vintage-quality tone. Five-ply mahogany and rosewood necks are climate resistant, and they intonate and stay intonated over time.
