  • anyone use long firewire with signal repeater in recording set up?

    hi,

i'm recording into a motu 828mk11 and then into a g4 mac tower that's in the other room to keep things quiet. i need to get a new long firewire cable and i'm seeing ones online that have a signal repeater in them and i'm wondering if anyone knows if the signal repeater in the cable adds any noise or problems in audio? i have successfully used a 15ft. firewire coming from the mac and going into a powered firewire hub and then another 10ft firewire coming out of the hub and into the motu, but i haven't used a single 30ft. cable with a signal repeater in it (they say it's two cables put together) and i'm wondering if there is much difference in doing it that way and if signal repeaters affect audio?

Maybe I don't really understand your setup, why you really even need to go 30 feet?

Drill a hole in the wall and the computer could be in the next room but only a few feet away.
