I am a bit confused about how these things work. I can firewire it to my computer and record into the DAW. Now will the sliders actually work, or are they just for when using it as a standalone mixer on stage or similar?

also, If I decided later on down the road that I needed more inputs, could I just buy another one of these, or a similar firewire mixer/interface, and just have them both recording simultaneously?

Depends on the software, but the sliders should be able to control the software. I don't think you can use two firewire audio interfaces at once. With protools le and the 003 factory, you can get a preamp like the presonus digimax fs and adat lightpipe 8 tracks into the 003. A setup like that would probably be the only way to expand your tracks at once potential, doesn't have to be the same gear, just used those as an example.

Ok, I am looking at the Saffire Pro 10. Its got 8 mic inputs and 8 Line inputs. Now could I just use some preamps and send them each into the line inputs to get 8 more mic inputs for this interface?

Yes you could use the line inputs with external preamp's, not sure how that would effect the quality though. I believe the Saffire has a firewire input so you can chain them together, this is one of the few devices that can do this right now.

Ahh great. It has 2 firewire ports, so I am assuming its possible. Can anyone confirm that this is possible?

            Have one & love it for it's mixer-desk format - pre's are nice & quiet, plenty of flexibility . . .

Each of the channels (for me) handle an audio track into the DAW. Faders adjust the gain levels; the eq and reverb "efx" are not bussed into the FW. There is a "pre" efx buss that can be used with external equipment into the FW, however. I have a rack compressor and a lexicon reverb jacked in here for some voices/instruments. The FW return from DAW is just stereo into the monitors knob. Simple

Really can't say 'bout expanding inputs thru the daisy-chain FW jack on the back as the 8 audio inputs here are enough for my one man band thing into Ableton.

Lemmee know any further questions, Mix . . .
