Since september; I use it at least twice a week to record something.

Not bad. I assume you're using the stock FireWire card too, correct?

Well, it is the interface that seems to be the best so far. I think I will go ahead and take the gamble. Like I said, the company I want to order it from is local, so it won't be a huge hassle to return it if needed.

        Again, thanks everyone!!!

Well, I recently joined the dark side and bought an iMac (21.5" screen, 2.7 gHz i5, upgraded the RAM from 4 to 12 GB recently). Now I want to ditch my beginner Presonus Audiobox USB interface and dive headfirst into FireWire. My budget is $500-$600 or less. I am considering the Presonus Firestudio with the 8 mic inputs, but I am all ears. Thanks!

I'm still on my RME Fireface 400 with a Swissonic AD24 through the ADAT port.. Happy days..

That said, i've used the Presonus Firestudio with my friends i3 iMac and it's pretty damn impressive. You could do worse to be honest..

And by the way, the dark side is where you left...

Well, since it would be a while before I could afford enough mics to record my drummer's giant drum kit, I decided to stick with the 2 preamp interface route (we program drums for the time being). Another music store buddy of mine recommended the M-Audio ProFire 610, so I took a gamble on it. It works PERFECTLY!!!! I didn't really get any noticeable latency with the Audiobox USB, so I can't really tell a difference in that department. However, the Octane mic preamps on the ProFire 610 are way quieter to the point that I was able to reduce the Close level on the noise gate I have working in conjuction with my amp software plug-ins. As far as connectivity goes, the only time it's an issue is is the computer automatically goes into sleep mode, which isn't a really big deal since my computer is constantly active during recording sessions. Lastly, the one big plus is that having a FireWire interface is less of a processor hog than USB. I am quite happy with my purchase. Again, thanks guys!

Honestly the only device that has given me or friends any issues is the presonus firestudio 2626 and studio live stuff.

Both the focusrite and m audio profire stuff has been great.

I've been using a profire 2626 for a couple years now on a mac pro. My friend has been using one on an imac (have no idea what year, it has a led screen though) for as long as the mac has been out and on an earlier imac prior to then.

Another friend is using the saffire on his newer model intel mac mini.

EDIT: I see you went with the smaller profire. Good choice.
