  • Foo Fighters & Wasting Light

Just saw a quick excerpt from a doco on the Foo Fighters recording Wasting Light on tape at home. The thing that stuck out to me was the lack of amps and cabs in the few scenes I saw. All I saw was the boys sitting around on lounges in a tiny room playing guitars that from what I could tell were plugged straight into machines. It was all pretty low volume in the room. Where were the heads, cabs and mics or did I miss something? Do they digitally model the amps and record the output to tape?

It's been a while since I watched it, but I assumed they had the amps in a seperate room. They might have recorded a DI track. But with the big deal they made about recording it in analogue, I assume they used actual mics on actual speakers.
