Shell Chords and Arpeggiated Scales

This video was shot at the Britt Festival 2016 Guitar Workshop and features local jazzman Ed Dunsavage explaining how and why to arpeggiate scales and how this informs the create of shell chords.

I found it surprising the the 5th, one of the fundamental of the rock and blues sound, is often thrown out in Jazz (and Bluegrass) because it is considered an unnecessary note that carries no information of the chord form.
