Question about a Martin DX1

Cruising around some online listings and stumbled across an online seller offering this Martin DX1 for $200. Seemed like that price was a little too good, even for a pre-owned Martin. I'm such a novice, though, I thought I'd see if any of the more seasoned musicians here could offer an opinion. Is this a legit offer? An excellent fake? A terrible fake? Thanks in advance.

I can't speak to the legitimacy of the seller, but based upon the pictures, the guitar looks authentic.

Unlikely that anyone would counterfeit an X-series Martin. At least I've never heard of that happening.

Hard to judge the condition of the guitar from those pictures, though.

That would be my primary concern. If it's in tiptop shape, should be a good deal.

As Queequeg says, it's unlikely an X series Martin would be a fake. More money to be made with copies of higher end models. eBay sold listings run from $300 to $350 with a hard case with one at $325 without a case, plus one outlier for $800 with a pickup and no case. Deduct a little for a gig bag instead of a case and you still have a very good deal assuming the guitar is in good condition. If it checks out go for it and good luck. :thu:

I had a DX1// They are very good sounding, good playing guitars.. Most were made in Mexico, but a few early ones were made in nazareth.. I had one of the USA built ones.. Here's the problem with them.. If you hit the side or back of the guitar, it explodes.. Blows wide open, NOT fixable, even by Martin.. It happened to mine, and from what i have read and heard from dealers, its extremely common... They are throwaway guitars... They don't dent or crack.. they shatter wide open, and according to Martin, you simply throw them out.. It happens to a LOT of them!.. They sound and play great, 100% Martin.. Until you bump them against something or drop it... bob

I hadn't heard that but it's probably because the guitars are essentially made of Formica. Different characteristics from wood. That said, this thread is a month old, not bad compared to some of the zombie crap we see but the OP has probably either bought the guitar or passed on it.
