Members babablowfish
The Stellas made by Harmony were cheaply made and not to be confused with the older Oscar Schmidt guitars. The Harmony Stellas were marked Steel Reinforced Neck and Made in the USA on the headstock. Look inside for lots of glue. If you can find a Stella today that doesn't have a seriously warped neck, bellied top or lifted bridge they can be fun for slide or for plunking out funky old tunes from the 30s. The action really can't be adjusted so if the action is too high - and by this time it is overwhelmingly likely that it will - then slide or the junk heap are the only two options. Members Terry Allan Hall
Actually, how do you tell the difference between the Oscar Schmidt versions, and the Harmony versions? In a legit shop, by the price tag...Harmony Stella - up to $100, OS Stella - up to $5K
Members OldGuitarPlayer
I think Harmony took over the Stella name in the late 40's or early 50's.Like TAH says...$100 if the guitar is in pretty good condition. These old Harmony guitars are starting to get popular now though. I see some of the older 1950's Stella's going for around $400. Not really worth it in my opinion. Members darkwaters
Never played one myself. You can hear them on Youtube. Remind me waaaay too much of the cr*ppy Silvertones I had as a kid. If you like that lofi tone then, who knows, you might like it. Finding one that doesn't have issues might be a problem. Members OldGuitarPlayer
When I was a teenager in the 1970's I had an old Harmony Meteor hollowbody electric guitar. In 1980 I could not even sell it for $80. Now I see them on eBay for $800...
Frets99
I have an old Harmony Stella parlor sized acoustic. Actually plays pretty well and sounds decent. But I wanted a lap top slide guitar so I bought a raised nut from Stew Mac and this guitar is tons of fun.
