Members Chordite
That cracked irreplaceable volume knob might not be so irreplaceable after all. I imagine you can get clear and cream resins too. [video=youtube_share;aNBHtlhlHF4]
Members Mikeo
That was pretty coolI bet there's someone out there that has a shareware 3 D printer file for making vintage knobs.
Members mrbrown49
Great vid. i just watched that last night as it showed up in my "recommended" section. Captured the surface finish of the originals amazingly well.
Members mrbrown49
Sure. After sandblasting, polishing, priming and painting you might get something that looks almost as good. I use 3d printed all the time at work, and it takes alot of work to remove the layer lines to end up with a smooth part.
Members Mikeo
Yeah, the stuff I have seen come off a 3 D printer is not smooth and pretty disappointing.
Phil O'Keefe
That was pretty cool I bet there's someone out there that has a shareware 3 D printer file for making vintage knobs. That was the first thing I thought of too - using a 3D printer to make recreations of knobs. But mrbrown49 is correct that 3D printed parts are usually not anywhere near as smooth. The method in the video seems to have worked very well - thanks for posting that Chordite!
