Depends on where it was made. China? Maybe 100 bucks USD. Chek. republic? maybe 150. USA' date=' maybe 200. Deans aren't collectable in general.[/quote']

It was made in Korea, so probably the same estimation as China?

First I'd need to know which model it is. The pics are all close ups and you cant make out which version it is other then its white and has a single pickup.

I'd hope its one of their budget models that sell for $150. Typically when an amateur jacks with a finish you can cut the resale in half compared to an untouched guitar. If they've screwed up the wood you can take off even more. Replacing a finish is by no means an easy task. Replacing the finish and matching the original can take years of experience and even then there's a high failure rate getting it done right.

You can EBay a desert loaded with botched refinishing attempts make by people who thought they could teach themselves the trade of refinishing. Some fail to realize how much it costs and are surprised to find they cant wind up spending $100 or more on just the materials. Others think they can reinvent the wheel and do a refinish without studying how its done.

The advice I give others when they think about refinishing for something as lame as they don't like the color, I tell them get over it and start obsessing over something worthwhile like their music instead of their instrument color. If it bothers them that much, sell the guitar and buy another. If you do want to learn how to refinish start with an instrument that has zero value so when you botch the job you wont be kicking yourself in the ass for screwing it up so badly.

Then when you have done a dozen or more and think you have the technique down, and get the urge to refinish are good guitar, call a psychiatrist. No one jacks with perfectly good finishes that doesn't have some obsessive compulsion going on that needs to be addressed. Its like buying a car. Are you going to wake up today and strip the paint off it because you'd rather have a blue instead of black car? Do you think it will be worth the same it did before you messed with it?

I used to buy basket cases other people botched and fix them up but to be honest, when you add in the time and materials, you typically loose more then you save. Even when you do a good job restoring it, there are simply too many good deals with untouched instruments. People aren't going to want to mess with most refinished instruments.

If this is one of their low end guitars I wouldn't pay more then $30~50 for it. You're going to have to put $100 into refinishing it and you can buy one with a decent finish for $150. If its a higher end version then figure a week or more labor and materials on top of a guitar that's typically uncomfortable to play as most Flying V's are.

Hi WRGKMC, thanks for the reply.

Firstly, yes I do I wake up and ponder about changing the color of my motorcycle, but thats besides the point lol

The model is US06073491 and made in Korea

This guitar was left to me, in other words, the owner abandoned it.... I think I know why now o_0

I have zero intentions of attempting any restoration of it, I've never attempted anything similar and don't have the tools either

So what do you reckon, is it a low end? I'm I stuck with this massacred Dean guitar? lol

Thats a Dean "White Gold" V, released around 2004. They appear to go for around $500+, but thats in excellent shape with Hardshell case. If you put it all back together, tuned and set it up, you might get $200 or so, maybe. All apart, expect to take another hit. Best bet, as is, put it up for trade, you might be able to snag a cab or pedal you've been looking at. (or you could send it to me, i'd gladly free up the room for you, lol)

I'll approach this from a different angle. As some of the forumites know, I build a few guitars and work on a few more. If someone brought me that pile of pieces and asked for an estimate to put it all together, this would be my approach

- First, its a set neck guitar with a relatively short tenon and very little support on the sides of the neck (Vees are noted for this). I would first make sure that the neck angle and geometry were perfect and the the glue joint was perfectly tight. If the geometry was at all bad I would reject the project completely

- Next, assuming you want the finish redone in the same white I would call my buddy who paints custom motorcycles. His cost for a basic one color catalyzed finish is $350 to 400. He might be able to reproduce the Dean head decal, however probably not.

- Assembly of the hardware and wiring the electronics would take me between 3 and 5 hours. I charge my time out at $50 per hour which is pretty cheap by some shop standards. Any missing parts would be my cost plus 30%.

- Fretwork, making a nut, all the other setup stuff would take me 3 to 5 more hours. It would play perfectly when I was done.

Bottom line, if the guitar is OK to proceed, you've got $3 - 400 for a professional paint job, $300 or more for labor and whatever parts are missing.

I happen to have an old Squire on my bench right now that the owner painted to look like something EVH might have had. He kind of screwed up the electronics - now he wants me to make it like it used to be. It was his first guitar so he is willing to spend some money on it and I'm going to be gentle because I like the guy. He is still going to have 500 bucks plus parts in a pretty crappy guitar. So will you.

Yep, I just realized there's no backplate though

I would make one, that would be about $25

I've decided to list it on ebay for 100, its got six watchers already and 4 days to go.... See how it goes I suppose.

If I get at least 100 I'll be happy enough with that, considering the mess the guitar is in. It will be much happier in someone else's hands, giving the proper attention it needs to bring it back to life

Thanks to all for the help, very much appreciated!! :)

I don't care what anybody says, you lucky dog !!!!

You can do anything you want to those tone machines, you can make them sound classic or you can make then so evil that the women in audience will have children walking with a limp.

I love getting "Basket Cases" and making them have a new life !!!!

Congrats and have fun building them to your liking !!!!
