Members Danoman
What's everyones thoughts on Danelectro's 2017 NAMM offerings? This Year they came out with the 2 new models: The Danelectro '84 Strat Copy, and the Danelectro '66 with bigsby and F hole. The '64 (The Moserite copy) is back for another year. Members badpenguin
The last 5 or 6 Danos I played recently all left me yawning. Average Korean and Chinese guitars, that are living on their past. As for a Dano strat, I have an Ibanez Talman 630. Same thing but built in Japan. Members brucebennett
I talked with the Dano Distributors about these ( I'm certainly not happy with them) and they told me point blanks its all about increasing sales and nothing more. It seems they would rather NOT make them.. but if they don't . then they fold. Once again the people have spoken with their wallets.
Members Ancient Mariner
Seems sad that Dano has to replicate stuff like the Mosrite awkwardcaster and a strat copy to survive.

I get it though, the company is not gonna get by with just putting out the same DC and U2 models every year ( I have 3 DCs ) While I have no plans to buy any of these... I do hope that they sell. I love Danelectro as a whole, and don't want to see the company fold. They're trying to market to a wider spectrum of players. They'll still continue to make the models that the die-hard dano fans want. They're probably just taking a detour from the usual format to try new things, to widen their fan base. I'd really like to see them at some point revisit some of those cool burst finishes from the late 1990's.
Members GoldJim
Danelectro as an also-ran in the Stratocaster copy biz will increase sales? I highly doubt they'll cover the costs. With the exception of a few Page wanna-be's, these guitars have a relatively niche market and practically zero resale value. The should have kept with their old bison horn looking double cutaways or folded the guitar side. Their pedals have a sleek coolness, distinct sound, and a price point that keeps them marketable. These guitars are unnecessary at best.
Phil O'Keefe
I thought Evets got Dano going again to make pedals, not guitars... but people kept requesting reissues of the guitars.
Members UlfHansson
I missed NAMM this year, so I haven't tried these out in person. But I have to say the look of these guitars make me seasick... Slanted pickups, odd angles, overall ugly layout (copy or not). As others have noted, Danelectro seem to scream for help. Phil O'Keefe
The Mosrite copies looked really good last year when I first saw them. I didn't get a chance to try the Strat copies this year, but Strats with lipstick pickups have always had their fans ever since SRV used them, so it's somewhat of a natural fit for them IMO, but like GoldJim said, I don't see them being huge sellers. If it means Dano surviving, then I hope that I'm wrong and that they do very well indeed.
Members Ancient Mariner
I guess people have been putting lipsticks into Strats forever, so maybe they will do well - I certainly like the look of a Fender strat with lipsticks.
