a couple guys i know (twin brother's actually) have epi lp standard flame tops one in honeyburst and one in cherryburst. they both feel like realllllllly nice guitars. the guy who started me out 11 years ago had an epi lp 100 that felt great also. one of the guys who played with us had an epi lp custom in black. felt great.

Epi's feel as good as gibsons to me..a little lighter....which is good.

They are supposed to be a cheaper alternative, however most believe that they are a pretty good buy because they are pretty close to a Gibson.

Only if by that you mean that in GC they are on the wall close to where the Gibsons are. Otherwise, in my experience they are not within a country mile...

- note, I haven't played an elitist, so my comments are limited to the run-of-the-mill epiphones

Elitist really aren't that much better than the run-of-the-mill epi's. What is so wrong with the epi's though? I have heard russ's argument, and it is a valid one. But most other people simply say, "epi's suck" and that's it. they don't back it up with anything.

They don't suck, but they aren't gibsons either. Like more and more MIC and MIK guitars these days, they are built with more care, but in most cases, the hardware and electronics (as well as wood) will likely be inferior to what you'd find on a gibson.

i trust you're not trying to say that MIC or MIK guitars are built with more care than a standard USA Gibson? I think you'd agree with me that that's not true.

Opinions? Oh I don't mind opinions, even if I don't agree. But don't diss things some people love. Say what you think. Just try not being an ass.

people are free to love them all they want. I love Epi Casinos, actually. But they also look and feel slightly cheap, and I think those same issues come out more on the LP models. the Japan and USA Epi's are much better guitars. if someone is offended by that, o well.

I meant as compared with previously. I don't want to bring up the whole "Gibson QA sucks" thing in this thread, or it will reach critical mass and explode...

that's what i thought you meant. i see this in Fender and ESP overseas guitars more than any other brand, actually.

I have only played a few epi's I would deem impossible to play ever, even with some work, but most I find simply need better set-up.

that may partly be the fault of the store. It's one of the reasons I haven't been in a Guitar Center for years. There's a local shop (Guitar Showcase) that has just as good a selection, but when I take a guitar from the rack I KNOW it's going to be properly set up and tuned.

Let's run with that.
What evidence do you have to back that claim?
Why would American workers put more care in their work than a Korean or Chinese worker? Is it genetic?
What about a Korean American or Chinese American working in a Gibson plant? Do they put less care in their work than a full blooded American worker (whatever that is)?

I live in a town with a big GM plant and honestly, the workers there have very little work ethic. I have friends that work there and have been told some amazing stories.
Many American workers today care more about the pay rate, benefits, and personal time than the actual work. 50 years ago that wasn't true but it is becoming a sad fact of life today.

I love my country but the American work ethic is not close to what it used to be. I would not be suprised at all that many countries have passed us by in that department.
