Members Larry the Dog
The usual GC stuff.....HT5 stack, VOX, Jet City, Line6, etc. Heading out there tomorrow. Thoughts anyone?
Members Machine Gun
What are you looking for? That's my first thought.

Members Bleak
What kind of stuff are you into playing? How tight is that budget?
Members Larry the Dog
Well......versatility would be nice...could probably squeeze the budget a bit for a Tonelab($199) to go with the Blackstar. Any opinions on the VOX valvetronix stuff?
Members Vintage55
I would recommend you try a Bugera V22 combo as well. Those that own them seem to really like them. Those that don't and have never played one hate them, of course...
Members doc oc
I like the super champ xd. (please don't shoot me)
Members tlbonehead
A big yes on the Valvetronix stuff. The Bugera V22, I guess it was ok the two times I used one. Clean channel is bad for my tastes. Overdrive is passable.
Members Vintage55
You might want to take one of your guitars with you to try out the amps. Not that hard to check it in and it will give you a better idea of what you'll get when you get it home. And it's probably gonna be setup more to your taste than just something off the wall. Members Larry the Dog
NO GIGGING........just for at home. I just want it to sound good is all.
Members -Assy-
save some money, get a mesa/boogie caliber 22+ or something if you want versatility.
Members Vintage55
Roland Cube 80 would another to check out.
Members pvwolfgang5150
Peavey Vypyrs seem to get a lot of love, I'd suggest checking one of them out.
Members Slave2TheAudio
I would advise against the Vox VT series. I would strongly advise the HT-5 or the Egnater.
Members Slave2TheAudio
Other than GC stuff, you could probably get a Fender Bassman or used head or combo fo around your budget.
Members Bluesidae
Ok, how about a Blues Jr. I use mine at home and love it. If you want some gain, and still play at bedroom levels, put a pedal in front of it. Just sayin'...
Members Steadfastly
If it's just for home I would go with a Fender Super Champ XD or Traynor DynaGain DG30D 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp. They are both good quality amps but I think I'd lean toward the Fender because of it's versatility.
Members tlbonehead
I would strongly advise the HT-5 or the Egnater.what don't you like about yours? I find them to be great, especially for good, versatile tones as an at-home amp.
Members guitarman3001
NO GIGGING........just for at home. I just want it to sound good is all. to sound good...hrmm.. ok, good like joe pass? good like metallica? good like SRV? good like skynrd? etc..etc..?? What kind of stuff do you play? Need a little more info than "I want it to sound good..." that said, maybe consider an amp that will do it all so you have a wide range of tones to mess with. I'd recommend one of the vox VT series. I just got one and it sounds awesome. The 30 watt and up models also have a built in power attenuator which is great for late night playing. It'll give you pretty much any tone you're looking for. Then again, maybe you don't want a modeling amp and want a pure tube amp.......... need more details.
Members chaos2767
I would say go for the Peavey Vypyr 75 and you will have 200 left over to blow on more effects.

Sorry for being so non specific guys....my bad. Just asking for a bang for the buck kinda thing. Super high gain isn't my style......heaviest being maybe some VH, AC/DC, Sabbath, 'Electric' -era Cult. Like a decent clean channel too.....I use the neck pickup exclusively when I play clean, and I pick mostly with my fingers. How do the cleans/od match up in my price range? Can the HT5 match the cleans on the VOX vt30? Can the VOX match up to the Blackstar on the gain side? Spiderjam? Is Line6 stuff really that bad? Might be my loss, but I just don't like Peavey. Jet City 20W 1/2 stack? How well does the HT5 take effects(just a cheap multi-unit)? I'll be heading out there in 2 hours, so any thing good or bad to say about amps in the $500 range, I'd love to hear them.
Members ExiledCrow
I like my Blackstar, great for gain, but the clean isn't super, not bad but if you do a lot of clean it might not be the best choice ...

If you gotta go tube, check out the Vox AC4TV and w/ a nice od pedal. HT5 sounds great overdriven but the clean tones left me wanting (though I haven't spent extensive time with it). If you're open to solid state look into one of the lower powered Peavey Transtube combos or the Tech 21 Trademark 60. If you need the versatility of a modeling amp, I like the Peavey Vypyr line and the older blue Vox modeling amps (the newer ones just don't sound the same to me). I specifically don't like the Line 6 Spider series, but the Spider valve sounds pretty darn good, but likely over kill in the volume department for home playing.
