Members Virgman
I've used this program for years and it's way cool. You can slowdown an audio track so you can copy/transcibe solos. etc. You can also slow down videos with it! So, for example, you can get a video off of youtube and slow it down. Members 1001gear
It has some quirky quirks but the fidelity is superb. I've learned that QTime and Windows don't get along. Why would you need to slow down a Youtube?

Why would you need to slow down a Youtube? You get a music or lesson video with a guitar solo off youtube and you slow it down so you can transcribe it. Transcribe uses Quicktime as its video player. I use a PC and have had no problems with it. Otherwise I don't use Quicktime.
Members 1001gear
98 thru XP the Quicktime player was buggy or would just plain crash. Now on 7, I won't use it. If I need a tune off Ytube, MP3 or Wav will suffice.

Are you sure you know how to use the slowdown on it. I find it very good and very adjustable. You have the newest upload of it? Originally posted by 1001gear View Post VLC is my go to player. Members 1001gear
I think I have the latest although for just audio and video playback even the earlier versions are fine. The gui is all I use. IIRC you can't save edits either. I'm ignorant on command line stuff if that's required.

Members Reuben
I've been using it for years in my lessons and some of my students liked it so much they bought a copy as well. I will check out Capo though.

Members JonR
I haven't used Capo, but as far as I can tell it doesn't do anything Transcribe can't. And it doesn't seem to work with video (which I've often found useful for watching guitarists's fingers). As for price, I've been looking unsuccessfully so far for its full download price, but it seems to be $49. Transcribe is $39. Moreover, Transcribe is free (whole program) for the first month, but I think the Capo free demo has limitations. Capo does have a cooler looking interface though! And it's apparently available as an iPhone app (much less than $49!), and Transcribe currently has no plans to produce an app version. So if it's an app you want, it has to be Capo. If you're working on a PC, however, I don't think it beats Transcribe. Just my $0.02. (The video option, however, does irritatingly require you to download and convert youtubes first, from FLV to MP4.)
Members JonR
Why not download the free demos of each and compare them? I'd do that myself for Capo, but I see no reason to change from Transcribe. The only possible improvement I could envisage for Transcribe would be to make the video option easier - currently it only works with MOV or MP4, so youtubes (FLV) have to be downloaded and converted, which is an irritating and time-consuming additional step. (Luckily I only rarely want to check video.) As for price, Transcribe is $39 and Capo seems to be $49 - although it is available as a much cheaper app, which Transcribe isn't. So if having an app is a deal breaker for you, it has to be Capo. I think it will do everything Transcribe does, apart from the video thing - and Capo has a cooler interface, if that sort of thing bothers you. (Personally I like the unpretentious Transcribe interface - the best designed, most user-friendly piece of software I've ever used, of any kind, IMO.) BTW, for demos, with Transcribe you get the whole program, no limitations, free for a month. With Capo - AFAIK - the demo has limitations, so you can't fully assess it without paying. (That's another reason I don't feel like trying it for myself.)

Members 1001gear
@ VirgSo far I can only do individual loops even though the thing has provisions for multiple sections. The instructions are so vague I'm on trial and error trying to get a work flow going. @JonThe value of Capo (it reads kah poe in my head no matter what lol) seems to be the sync across multiple platforms. Anyway I has no Mac so the demo is useless.
