If is was working out of L.A. I would be called "Paint Supervisor"

Of course those are simplified explainations. You need to be I afraid of experimentations and have competent construction knowledge. In NY you are expected to have extensive knowledge and skill in all facets of the art world. From fine art, faux finishing, mold making, sculpting, sign painting, type, graphics, et all. I am also responsible financially for my department so not {censored}ing up budgets is massive as well.

Basically I am an accountant / construction worker with serious mother {censored}ing fine art skills.

When people say that the arts don't matter, and that education wise it's a waste, and I shake my head because I know there are many jobs, where having an arts background is very legitimate. But knowing how the business world works too, i.e. accounting/finance is an important skill to have as well. Combine the two, and you're actually quite employable.

My dad was a high school art teacher for many years. He's had kids go to working in movies/set design (one is in Brooklyn NY btw), Chrysler interior car design, textbook/dvd design, Disney movie sets, etc. Lots of ways to make a good living in the arts, you do need to be creative, and practical all at the same time.
