New Promo Video...thoughts?

Finally got a new video cut in HD. We could never get a multi-track of a live gig and board mixes always sound like {censored}. So we just decided to throw an old multi-track live recording as a bed track for the video. Anyways, I think the point of a promo vid, for a cover band anyways, is to show people show up and like it. So we went with that angle. Watcha guys think?

honestly, it looks really bad when the video of u on stage and the background song are completely different.

the interviews are good tho for marketing purposes.

also people and booking agents are stupid, they aren't gonna know youre a 90s tribute band b/c you just gloss over it really quickly. you need to have a big {censored}ing title saying "90s tribute band. Taking Vegas By Storm. Here's a partial setlist: STP, Pearl Jam, Everclear..."

You know I've got love for you bro from the mixing (which is pretty damn tight) to

the video editing, which I find to be right where it needs to be...what your video is missing is: variety.

The song you've covered rocks but I think you need 2 more.

It would also help you sell your band with much more people in the background, just a thought. :)

I'm technical as f*#$ when it comes to sound production and this is really really well done!

See, this is the problem I have. I have one promo with {censored}ty video, great audio, and one the opposite. The show where we filmed this was supposed to be multi-tracked but the friggin soundguy never hit record! So I'm stuck with 3 hrs of great video, and the audio from the camera mic...which is horrible.

We've got 5 other tunes multi-tracked from 6 months ago, I may go ahead and mix those in...

I think the point is to show that you can actually play and sing, when the whole thing is dubbed over it misses that point. Bookers don't want CDs and concept videos, they want to see and hear that the band can really do it.

Although I do agree that people at the shows are a selling point.

If it's a new act you don't have that option but it sounds like you guys play regularly so to have live shots with people (in the demographic) is optimum.

We just did one (a 4min EPK version and a full 70 minuete concert).Audio and video are stellar but there are less than a handful of shots (in 70 minuetes) that you see actual people (dancing having a ball)....wish there were more shots. I can't post it here yet cause it's new product, maybe in the fall.

Getting audio AND video from the same date doesn't sound like rocket science to an outsider but {censored} happens (I've been through that) especially if your priority is to the club and the flow of the set and the flow of the night (and not to the taping)....If you could do a filming/taping in a controlled environment (rather than an actual show) you'd have better chances....maybe throw a party (not at a club), people come, play a song, get it right, repeat.??

I know what you mean. We've got another video that was done in a controlled environment (showroom that I used to run sound in). We had stage, lighting, multi-tracked the audio...that's where I pulled the sound for this one, but the video quality was {censored}...and we didn't have a second guitar player at the time. What I'm doing is attaching both of them to the EPK.

Eventually, when I have access to a stage again we'll prob do another one...3rd times a charm, lol.

You really need your agent to book you either a festival or county fair gig.

It doesn't pay squat but damn what a perfect environment to get hot women and loud/drunk fans

behind you while rocking it out to a lot of people.

Yeah dude, that would be killer. Don't know if you've been to Vegas, but there are 3 stages under the Fremont St. Experience dome. TONS of walking traffic and tourists. Only bad thing is this summer is all 80's, so we're trying to get a booking there this fall and for sure next summer since it will finally be 90's!

Looks cool and you guys sound great! The only thing (to me) that looks odd is that it looks like you're playing to a near empty room. You need to get some crowd scenes of a place that's PACKED with an energetic crowd....

Yeah, what sucks with the place we filmed at is you can never predict the crowd. We played there again 4th of July weekend and the place was packed with tourists...at least maybe 100 or so people there. We should've waited and done it then. Eventually I want to turn it into a montage of different venues.

....THEN you end up with THIS

[video=youtube;uGkO5kobRuA]

18,000 opening for Sugarland

.....but if the audio and video cant' be pro it's really only usable for "mom" ....... although there are tons of bookers and talent buyers who place based on this kind of thing

And there lies the problem, trying to achieve the balance of showing the talent of the band and how the band can pack a room! Unfortunately most club owners/booking cats care more about the later.

What kind of camera did he use? because I'll be quite honest, the image doesn't look any better than my $650 Sony Hi-8mm Handy Cam image.

So my suggestion would be, get one of your friends with a newer digital camera (preferably HD) to film a show, and get a stereo mix of the show out of the board. Then combine the two.

Then (I know, this is awful, right?) go on a night when it is packed - it doesn't even have to be your band playing (I know, sneaky, huh?!?!:thu: ) and ask really generic questions like," What do you think of the band?"

Remember, the name of the game is to get gigs. You know if your good and if you put on a good show, so don't worry about it being sneaky. If you don't feel good about being sneaky, then get one of your friends to ask people at your show.

But just don't ask,"These guys know how to throw a party, right?" That sounded like he was trolling for chicks to be in a low-budget porno movie.

It was actually shot on a $3000 HD Sony something or other? YouTube {censored}s with the picture...if you actually watch it on YouTube, instead of the imbed, you can view it at 720p....although still not as good as 1080.

I actually like the idea of stealing crowd shots from other bands. I'm gonna be down on Fremont St this weekend, and of course "djs" are on the 2 big main stages. If I can get my camera guy out, I may do some crowd shots...lol

Bty, he's not allowed to say "Vegas knows how to throw a party anymore"...
