Singing out of comfort zone... useful!

It's proving quite useful...

What does your voice eventually do when you sing a song that is "not meant" for your voice? The trick is not to think too hard (or even think at all). Definitely, don't aim to produce the vibe that makes the song unsuitable for your voice. Just sing the song, or bits of it, as yourself, regularly from time to time.

Eventually, the practice will subconsciously bring out some compensating factor in your voice, that is your voice! Really handy!

The Beach Boys - Sloop John B, I've known since I was a littlun, but it needs to be sung with more angst than comes naturally for me. "Angsty" songs are just not me, and I have no pretensions in that direction. I've just been lazily singing the song just because.

Still no angst in my tone of voice, but I don't think I am sounding too bad, at all. I can feel the song bringing out some other vibe in my voice, that I wasn't aware was there.
