Will a harder reed make crossing the break easier?

I'm learning some clarinet, the reed that came with it is a 1.5

 

when trying to cross the break it is ok but the B note is often breathless or won't play clearly, will a stronger reed make it easier? what strength should I try 2 -2.5 or even 3?

1.5 is pretty soft, but that depends on the player.

 

Go up to a 2, then as your lips get stronger try another half-step.

I typically start my students on a 2 or 2.5 and then try to settle them in on a 3 by the end of their 2nd year. IMO a 1.5 is to soft for the typical beginner.
