  • Yet another way to measure the crushing defeat of the GOP/MAGA in the midterms

We've already detailed the number of seats the Dems took in the House, Governors races and statehouses. And the way the GOP barely held on to the Senate by only flipping a couple already deep-red states.

But this hasn't been discussed yet:

As we all know, Pubs usually do much better in the midterms because they turn out so much more. And we also know this a record high mid term turnout. Both parties turned out their voters. But look at this comparison for the national vote totals in the House contests:

In 2014: 35 million voted for the Democrats, 40 million for the Republicans.

In 2018: 53 million voted for the Democrats, 48 million for the Republicans.

In addition, 123 women won House, Senate or Governorships. and of the 37 House seats Dems flipped, 20 of the candidates were 40 or younger.

And again, all of this done during a booming economy with record low unemployment.

    MAGA is over.

Trump was the shiny new thing from TV in 2016, and I don't see him making inroads with the young voters, as they don't seem to watch things like reality TV religiously. This is totally anecdotal, but comes from hearing what my kids, grandkids and their friends are saying.

When you factor in how many rinos are being chased away, and the GOP still with such a strong showing, I'd say the dems should be highly concerned with their LACK of "blue wave"....but hey, when you have nothing else to tout, I suppose any silly stat will do.

Huh? What are you talking about? The “blue wave” took place pretty much exactly as predicted.

I kove how Trumpsters just continue to live on their own fictional reality.

I agree that the Democrats made significant gains in the House and in various state races (the Harris County, Texas judgeships and transgendered candidate, Danica Roem winning a seat in the Virginia legislature over the man who wrote that state's "bathroom bill," for example), but the Republicans managed to gain seats in the U.S. Senate. This was not the "Blue Wave" some people hoped for, nor was it the "Stunning Victory" Donald trump proclaimed. Both sides sort of broke even.

The significant part is that the Democratic voters finally outnumbered the Republicans at the polls. If they keep it up, and particularly if the Democrats can get the "youth" vote, the "Conservative Republicans" may finally be put back in their place as just one part of the political whole, rather than the minority who dominate the majority.

It should also be noted the degree to which the more "progressive" Dems did better than the moderates in 'red' states. It's probably fair to discuss whether this is a good thing or not for the general state of our populace (more polarization it seems to me) but it's nonetheless a fact.

Progressives Beto O'Rourke, Stacy Abrams, and Andrew Gillum, while not winning themselves, did far better than Dems usually do in those states and helped carry a lot of progressive Dems to victory in lower elections in those states. Meanwhile, moderate Dems in North Dakota, Indiana and Missouri did worse.

The 'blue wave' was VERY really last week. Republicans are trying to deny it by arguing it didn't take place because it didn't end up being a complete blow-out tsunami.

Trump couldn't even save red Montana and he worked liked hell to defeat Tester.

                      MAGA is over.

As I said, both sides won something.
                        Neither side won everything.
Trump proclaimed "victory," even though he has no idea what he's talking about.

Well, the GOP obviously wasn't going to lose EVERY election! There were hundreds of them LOL. but they didn't win any big ones except maybe FL and now even that is up in the air. Winning senator races in deeply red states wasn't 'flipping' anything. They didn't turn any blue areas red or even purple, that's for sure.
