The worst hit song ever?

I just read an article about an old Starship song being "the worst song ever. "

http://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/is-this-80s-no-1-hit-really-the-worst-song-ever/ar-AAiCaBe?li=BBnb7Kz

I don't exactly consider it to be a great song, but I think I can think of a worse hit song... can you?

I'll start:

Men Without Hats (or brains...)

Safety Dance.

(You can post the video to go along with your selection if you wish, but I'm going to refrain this time. If I posted the video, I'd have to ban myself. ;) )

I dunno, its pretty dang awful.

This is my favorite part of the article though:

Peter Wolf (co-writer/producer): "Journey was recording in the studio next door, and every time I opened the door, their band members were standing outside with their mouths open. 'This is the Starship? It's unbelievable!'"

If anyone would know a really cheesy pop hit when they heard it, its Journey

As for worse hit songs? Its subjective, but here are some candidates:

Cold As Ice, Foreigner

Pretty much any Journey hit.

Mr Roboto and Too Much Time On My Hands, Styx

Any REO Speedwagon hit

Roseanna, Toto

Any Van Hagar hit song

Too Legit To Quit, MC Hammer

Hello, Lionel Ritchie

Hey Mickey, Tony Basil

Any Goo Goo Dolls song ever heard on the radio

Worst? There has to be 100's of thousands of really crappy songs.

Anything by Joan Jett would be a starting point

I think Joan has a certain brutish, butchy charm :)

But that just reminded me of one...

Hell is for Children, Pat Benatar

So many....

Rod Stewart- Do ya think I'm sexy

Billy Ocean- Get outta my dreams, get into my car (sex offenders theme song)

Bobby McFerrin - Don't worry be happy

Vanilla Ice- Ice Ice Baby

Creed- With ARms Wide Open

Billy Ray Cyrus- Achy Breaky Heart

And yes.....that Starship song does eat a bag of STD infested dixx. :D

Hehe, I think the Starship song gets extra suck points because each incarnation of that band seemed to go further and further downhill until they ended up there. For my money though, I'll still say anything by REM. Also that insipid Joan Osbourne song that displays a surprising ignorance of the premise of a major world religion.

I'll totally rock some Safety Dance though anytime! I can dance if I wanooooo!

I heard some J. Geils in a bar the other night and when the song ended I still hear in my head the first few notes of the next song from back in the days before I could get to the tape deck and rewind it to back to the good stuff.

I actually like this tune though

Plus they're named after a great tune by The Band:
