Members Jonas Preisler
Hi I am a manager for a pop singer. I'm working in an Europe tour and fairly new to this. A few questions: 1 How long time in advance should I send out emails and book the gigs?2. How much can I charge for an artist like this (2 dancers, 1 DJ incl) : Is this a good email to send out? Found the guide on http://www.earnityourself.com/forums/topic/how-to-write-an-email-to-a-promoter-or-venue/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Subject: [bAND NAME] tour: [Day of Week], [Date]Hi there! My name is [yourname] and I am the [singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer/whatever] for the band[bAND NAME - BOLDED and/or ALL CAPS]. Moderators daddymack Posted May 25, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 25, 2013 I would think you need to start booking at least 180 days in advance if you are trying to put a chain of gigs together in a cohesive flow. Plus, you need to research the venues to make sure they would even be interested in booking your type of act before contacting them...you don't want to waste people's time trying to book a pop act into a metal or jazz venue, right? Also it may be weeks before some venues get around to replying [either positively or negatively], and you need alternatives and time to apply those alternatives.I am not crazy about the canned e-mail, either. I would strip down some of the 'needy' ['was hoping you might...'] and 'chatty' elements ['I know you are super busy'-gag me with an entrenching tool] and make it more business like.I also didn't notice any monetary discussion...and I see you are asking what to charge...what have you been charging for your local gigs? Are you going to accept whatever the venue offers? I don't think you can operate like that on tour. So you need to specify a guarantee range [this goes along with the research mentioned above] since you don't want to ask for $1000 from a club that typically pays $250 for their acts.I'll be honest: if you have never done this, find yourself an experienced tour manager/agent who has and learn from them on this first tour. There are so many pitfalls you can avoid by letting someone experienced pave the way for a percentage.
Members beatpoet
Be sure to avoid all those awful muso board cliches such as "established band", "professional attitude", "full, clean driving license" and "we have all our own gear".
