Members Li Shenron
(Sorry if Music Distribution is not the right forum section for this, I just thought it was related at least...) http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/011910-italian-tax-on-digital-recording.html Italy is about to introduce a tax on every hardware that can be used for file storage: hard drives, memory sticks, mobile phones, iPODs, digital video recorder, digital cameras, TV decoders, etc. Every piece of electronic equipment where you can potentially store a media file. (Note that blank CDs, DVDs and similar are already taxed in Italy in a similar way). The tax is meant to compensate for potential losses due to copyright infringements. On another article it was speculated a total ~300.000.000e yearly for SIAE. While the article includes a statement by SIAE's president that a similar tax exists in other countries, other articles have pointed out that it is unprecedented but could settle an example.
