Great video man! :thu: Is that a regular venue you play. Is it usually packed or is that a following that you bring. The crowd is awesome. They know all the lyrics to the songs you were playing. I'm not familar with all the songs (except Sex On Fire) but the band sounds good.

Most important... German chicks are hot!!! :D Can you get us booked there. ;)

Thanks dave, guido and grant! Really appreciate the kind words, because I have seen the videos of your bands and you are really awesome. Your bands would totally rock that place, too.

It is a regular venue. We play there every year, actually we are playing there friday and saturday! I guess the place would be packed with any band but we established it because we have played there for over 10 years. So most of the people in front rows can be considered following because I notice (and remember especially the nice girls) their faces on most of our gigs over the year.

And grant if you really want to come over I could get you booked there in no time :D

(and, I may add, I would really love to because I would be partying right in front of the stage! :))

This could be the part of an interesting discussion. You guys have been together 10+ years. This is our 10th summer playing. I'm curious how you guys do your bookings, how far you travel to shows and how often you play. Are there a collection of similar styled cover bands that play the same clubs in rotation?

I might be in Frankfurt this Fall. If you play there let me know. I'd love to catch a show!

PS: Do you know what was used to film that video. Excellent low light capture!

Fotoguy is using CANON EOS 5D MARK III.

I think booking is not the same here as in your area.

The bands here do not come up to clubs and stuff to book a show. In fact clubs are for disco music only. Its rare to have a liveband in a club... I actually never saw it happen. (coverbands that is)

Instead the venues and events ask the bands to play. The drummer doing all the booking stuff has a personal relationship to the owners of most of the venues and we often play at the same spot every year. Its a more rural area with regular events called "kerwe". Every village or town has one and thats the places where livebands play.

Our playing area is ca. 70km north-south and maybe about the same west-east. I cant remember travelling longer than half an our to a gig.

We play about 20 gigs a year but turn down 20-30 requests due to personal life issues like wives, children, family blabla. (I am the youngest with 26 and never turned down a request, yet :)) Id love to do more shows but I understand that the other members do not.

There are maybe a handfull of other bands in the area doing basicly the same thing... Actually we played at the place friday and saturday and another band played there sunday (monday was aholiday in germany) and an acoustic duo played there monday and tuesday.

We wont be playing in frankfurt because its too far. We have a gig in october and november though... You would have to travel south (1h trip by car) and you could come and see us then. ;)

That's a nice vid, well shot. Looks like the audience and the band was having a blast! I gotta' tell ya', though - it's really weird seeing people in the audience smoking. I haven't been in a club that still allowed smoking in what, 10 years?

Come to Louisiana. All clubs here are still smoking. Sucks!!!!

Does anybody miss this? Including smokers?

Not me. I quit a few years ago and don't need the temptation. I did forget that the casinos here still allow it, though - so I guess it hasn't been as long as I thought since I've been in a venue that allows smoking, after all.

No, not at all. Hazers handle the lights and I don't have yellow gear! Stage clothes were the worst picking them up off the floor in the morning.....what a stench. Mostly from club smoke...ha!

Everyone pitched a fit when California first outlawed smoking in bars/restaurants. There's still some controversy about how much it has hurt the live music scene, but it seems nobody---not even most smokers---miss being able to smoke inside and nobody much under 35 even knows it was ever any different....

Hey,

Thx again for all the replies.

Sorry that our set has so many german songs, but they just bomb with our audiences...

As for the gig, it is obviously outside... most of our gigs are. indoors would be smoke free zone too here in germany.

Yeah those are real glasses. I live in one of europes prime regions for vine... So no beer is sold at the venues only vine in those glasses. Come to think of it, I cant remember seeing security that evening, although usually there are a handfull of them around on every event.

The glasses:

I hope I can show you a video from saturday at the same place...

No need for apologies man. I think it's freaking cool to see a club full of 20 somethings who are into a band and singing along to songs. I've had so many experiences playing in other markets, in front of a packed room, where people just stand with their arms crossed waiting for the DJ to come back. Some regions we play (Long Island especially) people just act too cool for school. The second thing I think is amazing is that you're only gigging 20 shows a year, maintaining a following and still booking a show at this level. We average a minimum 5 nightclub shows per month and if we played any less than 1x per month in our key rooms (6-8 weeks in others) we'd feel like we'd be losing our footing to another band. As much as it may seem redundant to see the same band and setlist every weekend people in my area like consistency. If they find something that works on the weekend and they are having fun, they'll stick with that. I'll admit that more than half the people in the rooms we play don't follow the band because of the songs or music, they come out because they know other people will be there. To be able to feed that you need to offer frequency, consistency and some level of predictability in your schedule. I was just looking at our summer calendar and we are playing quite a few summertime parties, weddings and private events, which means we won't be in alot of popular clubs that frequently. That limits our exposure to new and fresh faces. Even though we're a well established name on the club scene, when you are not in front of that audience often you risk people either missing you ... or forgetting you and find another band to fill up their weekend dance card. ;)

To play 20 x's a year and draw people and play to a crowd like that (destination or not) is pretty cool in my book.
