Members Unsound Practices
I'm in the mood to spend the weekend soldering, and I get Belden cable and Neutrik XLRs pretty cheap locally. What is the Belden cable number of choice for stage mic cables? 8412? Also, what are the lengths of choice these days for a typical 5 piece band? I'm used to having 1.5m, 3m, 5m, and 10meter lengths available but that may be a bit over the top. FWIW this is a step in my "build my own PA" project for less then $x. Thanks! Members The Real MC
Belden 8412 for mic cables, 10m is plenty long enough. All my cables are 25ft, - I have some 15ft but they're not useful on anything smaller than a coffeehouse stage.

Members where02190
While most likely you will not hear an audible difference between a 20' and a 50' cable, shorter is always a good rule to follow. We make mic cables for the SR companies in 10-15-25-50-100 ft lengths. 15 and 25ft are the most used.

I've been a "cable manufacturer" for decades. I do cable work for many of the larger SR companies in the region that I work for, multipin, speaker mults, rack wiring, etc. It's far less expensive to buy in bulk cabling and connectors and have your cables made (espeically if you include company name/logo on shrink for each one) than to have anyone make it. I like to make cabling, especially multipins. I also do sound design work, own a recording studio, do audio for video, sports, corporate, radio, etc. This is what an audio engineer does who has a clue and some versatility.
