Members jbutler1982
Hi All, I am having some trouble micing a singer. He sings loud in his normal voice and sounds great, but when he goes fallsetto (sp.) his volume drops quite a bit. I'm not sure if this is bad vocal technique, but I'm not in a position to tell him to get lessons. Is there anything I can do from an SR standpoint to try and even the vocal out at all? Members flanc
You could add a pit of compression to level him out or ride the gain/trim knob a bit bringing up the soft parts. Be careful because this will also raise the volume of the monitors and they'll feedback if you don't have room!
Members jbutler1982
Unfortunately, I wont be at a console since I play in the band. I'll have to read up about compression. I've heard that it can kill your sound if you arnt careful. I'm worried about that because this guy has an absolutely *fantastic* voice and I really dont want to mess it up! Members Square
Compression will not detract from a singers voice if: 1) You use quality compressors2) You set the compressor up so it is only compressing the peaks and not squashing the signal all the time Who is running the sound for your band?
