remote playback of interval music and backing tracks with real vnc

HI Guys

 

i use real vnc( via a wireless router and  my wife and off stage laptop) to control playback of backing tracks on a rack mounted laptop on stage with me, lately my playback program winamp 5.56 has started stalling or crashing completely, Has anyone else had problems with this sort of thing?

Win amp is cool, just never found it to be stable and trustworthy, Did you install any new software or hardware lately? First suggestion is uninstall anything added if not anything new uninstall and reinstall the offending application. Good luck.

Also if using M$ Windows OS open task manager see if anything is using all your resources and troubleshoot accordingly if your CPU is running @ 100 %.  If it's an older laptop possible your hard drive is failing? Those little buggers are not fail proof.

Good example of why more complicated solutions like this may not be as suited for live applications as something like a hardware controlled iPod. I have seen these issues too many times to call it rare.

One key to using a computer for performance applications is to not use it for ANYTHING else, ever! Shut off all network connections (never let them on the internet), only install mission critical software, and keep it dedicated for this one use. Also only install updates if you need to, and only when you have plenty if time to test EVERYTHING out.

Here's what I like to see for my situation. The music would be coming from an iPod touch or iPad, an second iPad would select/stop/start the music. Audio would physically be stored on the iPod touch/iPad. Any thoughts?
