Members race81 Posted September 29, 2013 Members Share Posted September 29, 2013 Replaced a speaker basket on my sp118. Toasted the voice coil in it a couple of weeks back. After replacing the basket im struggling.....it sounds no where near as good as the other one. I used a direct factory replacement, and cleaned the magent gap twice, thinking that would help. The speaker itself hardly moves compared to the other side.....It sounds ok, just not up to the level of the old one....is this normal, should they be replaced as pairs....dont know what to do other than by a matching pair of new speakers.....somebody lead me the way.... Iirc, there are different models and some may not be interchangeable either because the gap is not the same geometry (different product) or because of the different design properties for different applications. Other than that, I think Andy's on the right track regarding the several basket assemblies Peavey offers. Did you perhaps replace a 4 ohm basket with an 8 ohm? Members race81 Posted September 29, 2013 Author Members Share Posted September 29, 2013 It is the exact same .... Even same part no.... It is a 8 ohm speaker.... How do I check phase/polarity? It's exactly the Same in all aspects accept the no of voice coil windings.
