O1v96 fader replacement

Been using Airfader quite a bit and started to notice more and more 1 fader was sticking with 2 other faders just starting to stick slightly. The real bad one has been about 3 years getting to where it is now. The rest were fine. Ordered the faders and they fit great. Direct replacement.

The whole repair was pretty easy and took me about 2.5 hours with me taking my time.

Everything works great now. I hated to hear that No. 3 fader make that sticky, belt noise when using airfader. Glad its gone now.

Nice job' date=' I've replaced a few in the classic 01v and an 01v96 too. Not fun but it's possible. My current 01v classic needs a few knobs replaced, too many shows![/quote']

The O1v96 and O1v are a great pair to have if higher channel count , more eq , or if effects is needed. The O1v is a great digital Adat / SPDIF preamp.

With an adat card in the O1v and SPDIF you can add 10 more digital channel inputs to the O1v96. These channels have the full eq and I've added the effects as well for 6 effects engines total with the setup.

As the Adat out on the O1v is Post fade/ Post dynamic's it works great to keep everything on 1 layer. In the photo below I had 10 drum channels on the O1v. I set the channel faders to 0db. Set the gain then for the rest of the show I had drums on the O1v sent to layer 17-32 on the O1v96 with the rest of the band on the O1v96 layer 1-16. I could keep the O1v96 on layer 1. I used the 2 effects in the O1v for a reverse gated reverb on the snare when needed and an overall reverb for the kit.

Need delay lines and out of Aux's on the o1v96 just use the spdif in/outs to add up to 4 delay lines with the O1v. The list goes on and on.

My O1v has been great. 20 years old this year! All the faders work as they should. Still clacking away as they did new. I think a used O1v is the best value for adding 10 digital inputs to an O1v96. I've seen used ones in the $400 range with adat card installed.

I couldn't agree more. Yamaha's professional line is some of the best built gear ever. I also have an original 01V that is 17-18 years old and I still works like a champ. I had the weird grounding issue about 5 years ago but fixed it with a couple of jumpers from board to chassis ground (no problem since). I had one switch get loose (just opened it up and crimped it back tight again). Otherwise it's been powered up almost continuously since I bought it used in 01. Granted it doesn't travel but is always on as part of my computer audio/video studio. I also use it more as a set of ADAT mic pre's and switching & distro among various sources. Just recently I noticed one slightly sticky fader (could be dust as I never cover it).

Next time I get any substantial work in my studio, I'm looking to buy an 01V96 as an upgrade. I don't really need any mixing functions (most everything sits at unity or infinity :) but the front end and processing are a bit better (higher bit rate & depth). Slightly older clunkier technology but one of the best values around (especially in terms of integrity).
