Members Nordo
I need some recommendations for an amp to drive two horned loaded subs (BFM T39s each with a Lab 12).The calculated voltage limit of each is 57volts (8ohm).The subs and amp will be controlled with a DCX2496.I want to operate the amp with no attenuation i.e. gain controls on full. My main problem with amp selection is the vague way cheap amps (e.g. Behringer) specify their power. There is no mention of "RMS", "Music", "Peak", "average", etc. Any help would be appreciated. Members jonthomas
BFM forums have a few recommendations, the Peavey IPR is popular.Behringer specs are in the PDF manual and are fairly accurate, the DSP models have all the processing your subs will need. Members agedhorse
If you didn't look at cheap crap you wouldn't have to worry about ambiguous performance specifications. IPRs are fine, they will outperform your subs. So will most other amps IMO.

An NU3000 bridged into two 8 ohm drivers is around 1200 "real" watts, there aren't many drivers that will survive that without a good DSP limiter in the chain - but the NU3000 will fold back to 750w after a few seconds and shut down not long after that if you keep pushing it. That's what I run on my Danley TH-Mini's when I need the output - if I smoke them some day I'll replace the drivers with 4 ohm drivers and run them off my IPR3000 for a more sane 840 watts each. OTOH I have yet to have a foldback or shutdown happen even run hard outdoors for 300 or so.
