Members thegloaming
holy smokes, I just found out about the Novation Supernova II, that thing is sweet! Is there anything that competes with this as a VA? What do you guys consider the ultimate VA synth out there new or old??

Members mildbill
For programmability = Waldorf Q For flexibility in a sequencing environment = Virus TI For number of filter types = Alesis Ion/Micron For modular hard/software = Clavia G2
Members mytee2.0
and so begins the random VA name dropping.
Members Diametro
It may not be the "ultimate," but it's close IMO (see V-Synth GT for the $2,500 ultimate edition) ... The V does things no other synth can
Members pighood
The Supernova II is a Bentley among synths...pure luxury & smooth goodness. Mildbill pretty much summed up well, though I would not consider the Q a VA.

Members morten'J
Kurzweil Va1 sound great even without the Effect processor. I play it few times it has very good sound like supernova. You know soon how it sound in PC 3.

Members Khazul
Erm - try the Supernova Pro X? Theres quite a few VAs around that manage to do something special beyond the norm - Virus TI probbaly being the most powerful currently, even if it doesnt do some of the tricks the SN2 could. Members MuzikB
Access Virus Ti or Waldorf Q+ Phoenix Edition. I consider the Ti to be a Super VA of sorts myself.

I like the warmth of the Supernova, the huge flexibility of the Nord Modular. I like the Virus filter a lot. But there is no ultimate VA (DSP subtractive synth) because, VA's are where romplers were in the early 1990s. They've only just begun.Jerry

Members Awake77
The Korg Z1 has a pretty cool VA implementation...it also does a type of FM synthesis and physical modelling, which doesnt sound all that realistic but can make some crazy sounds. The filters are good, nothing too special but the modulation matrix and cool variety of oscillators more than make up for it...it's a fantastic synth. Members Needle201
Is the Supernova much different from the Nova Laptop? I had one of those a few years ago, but sold it. I still have a selfmade soundbank for it, so i wonder if i should rebuy it, or just get a Blofeld. Need something small and digital as company for my Moog LP... As for the Ultimate VA, I guess thats difficult to answer...They are all so different..
Members mytee2.0
iirc the nova has an input, supernova does not. Its also a lot smaller. I think theres some other differences to but I cant remember.
Members setAI
I have never heard a patch on an analog/VA/ modular/ wavetable/ FM/ granular synth- hard or soft- that didn't sound much better and richer in Vaz Modular- it wins every A/B test you can throw at it in hardware- I keep seeing that many still think the old AN1x sounds the best-

Members MuzikB
The V-Synth GT although an improvement, is still shy of the mark. See the Sound on Sound review. I agree with them wholeheartedly. I'll wait for another model improvement in perhaps the V-Synth GTZ
Members Tusks
An1X is very good for lush polyphonic sounds. Filters are a little weak for for lead and bass imo.
