Live Sample Looping & Tempo Change - Ableton Live ??

Hello, I have several different drum loops/variations/fills in .wav format. I want to know if & how I can assign different drum loops to individual Keypads and trigger each loop with an external controller using Ableton Live?

 

Apart from triggering loops, I would also like to be able to:

 

-Switch from one drum loop to another on the fly

-Change tempo in real-time.

 

I will appreciate all the advice and Ideas I can get....

 

*Would any of the Akai MPC series sampler be able to do this also ?

Yes. Live 7 has the Drum Rack (lots of pads), earlier versions only have Impulse (which allows you to use 8 different drum sounds).

 

 

-Switch from one drum loop to another on the fly -Change tempo in real-time.

 

If you want to do this at the same time you need to put the drum loops in a clip (Ableton's Session View) and trigger these; they'll be locked to time and will speed up in realtime.

First yes, second yes, but not with timestretching; with chopping up the loop in separate bits (a really easy process), then yes.

You can also do this with phrase samples in an Akai MPC (well the 2500 at least, dunno about 1000 or 600).
