Members cvogue
What's a "pad" sound when talking about synths? I hear "pad" used in the same context as "strings", "brass", "pianos" etc... Thanks!

Members ElectricPuppy
My entirely uneducated definition: A pad is a background voice that the rest of the mix "sits" on. It's the mattress that the rest of the mix gets busy on top of. Strings, soft horns, swirly outer-space reverby stuff are usually used as pads. A piano can be a pad, but isn't always a pad. Same for strings, etc. It depends on how it's used.
