Help. Daughter wants to take piano lessons

Age 14. She has never played before. I don't think it makes too much sense to take lessons if she doesn't have anything to practice on. I am thinking about picking up a keyboard since I assume they are less expensive than a piano. I have been playing guitar for a long time and my son plays bass so I think we would still find some use for it even if she doesn't stick with it in the long run. I have something she could play through for the time being so I won't need a keyboard amp. I know nothing about keyboards. Any suggestions for a beginner to mid-level keyboard that is not crazy expensive? I am less interested in electronic features and capabilities. I would like for it to have "real" feeling keys that respond to how hard you press them if possible without breaking the bank. They keyboard player in my band has a Korg (Trident I think) that does this but I know it is very expensive. Any suggestions for under $500.00
