Members Mr Temporary
Here's a little something for the low end. Woods are: Padauk Maple Khaya Mahogany Douglas Fir Bolivian Rosewood Electronics are Lollar J-bass pickups, Two volumes one tone with a push/pull on the neck volume for series/parallel. Also has fiberoptic side dot markers, which is another story for another time. For a string ground, there is an aluminum bar inlaid into the back, and you can just see the cap in the picture. Most interesting part was building the slotting jig for the fanned frets. I've got a post on it here:
Members Tom Mc1
This is a really cool bass. I would love to hear what the fanned frets do to the sound and intonation. The other really different part is the bridge. It looks like the saddles are mounted to the body without some kind of a plate to hold them in place. Is this sturdy and able to be adjusted? As I'm a woodworker, I can identify most wood just be looking at them. Where is the Doug Fir?
Members Mr Temporary
Fanned Frets don't require anything special when it comes to intonation. The individual string bridges are available everywhere, and I got these off eBay. Each saddle is adjustable, and they're plenty sturdy. Embedded in the body is an aluminum plate that serves as a link for the string ground. You can see the maple fill strip on the back picture. When laying out the dimensions, I'd put the bridges a bit further south than optimal, but there was plenty of room to adjust, so it intonates just fine. The Doug Fir is the majority of the wing material. The top has a Padauk layer, which is carved off on the bass side of the body.
