Members VillaBella
hi everybody! i had a question about mixing cello in a rock mix..... any suggestions on compressor or filter banks???? the cello's low end is currently muddying up the entire low and mid lows of my whole mix. i haven't attempted to do anything yet just wanted to see if there is any wisdom out there i can benefit from before i do the obvious. thanks and looking forward to your response! Members smartassmusic
Hi there,Tricky without hearing it but it could be a problem with the arrangement rather than the mix? It sounds as though you have two or more instruments occupying the same pitch register-probably a couple of guitars and cello all playing in that tenor register. Personally I would (generally) compress the hell out of the guitars but more or less leave the cello alone. It's just a different type of instrument and if you compress it a lot you'll lose a lot of the quality that makes it a cello.alternatively you could pan the instruments to different spaces so they're not colliding.Personal guideline would be to keep the cello natural while guitars can take a lot of eq/ compression and still come out fighting.Be interesting to hear it?Good luck
