    Really Digging LUFS Metering

It used to take me hours to balance levels among songs on an album, now it takes 30 minutes or so. There's the issue of what LUFS reading to shoot for, I don't go with the -23 LUFS recommended by the EBU...I master to "what sounds right," and for my music, an LUFS reading of -11.4 seems ideal. It's the sweet spot of dynamic and bit of squashing.

I was checking LUFS readings for some of the "loudness wars" CDs, a lot of times it went up to -6 LUFS or so. Anyway, I find LUFS is better than peak or average RMS readings. Good stuff.

Yeah, it really is cool. I decided to remix a song at the last minute when I heard some timing issue but the album had already been assembled...just dropped it in, matched the LUFS...done.

I'm sure purists hate the idea, but I never was much of a purist anyway

Good article Craig . And I use the Izotope insight meter. Definitely makes a big difference. I have to say, the idea of the hardware one has me interested. Interesting thing though, price is almost double here in Europe/UK for some reason, or not available.
